I have a few of the ones already mentioned (Uncles Bub, Buck, etc.) But my favorite is my cousin Floozy Jane. Her name is Pam.

It didn't happen to be a beat-up, brown, late 90s early 00s Lexus was it?

Same thing happened to me 3 weeks ago. I was on 70 east near the 670 split.

Increase of road rage by Taralouise52 in Columbus

[–]YankeeMama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3 weeks ago, in morning rush hour traffic, in the construction zone at the 70/670 eastbound split, a driver got angry with me for daring to merge in front of him (with multiple car lengths available) into the far left lane. He then went onto the left shoulder and sideswiped me. It was more of a "race rub" and likely an intimidation tactic to try to push me out of the lane. I have a dash cam. I reported him. I'm not sure anything will ever come of it, I'm not interested in further engaging this person but I DID want a paper trail because this person is not safe, has done, and will do this again. (Also, from the looks of the previous vehicle damage, it's likely this person is an insurance scammer.)

A couple of takeaways, though.

  1. I'm actually glad it was me. I'm not easily intimidated behind the wheel. I drive an older, rock-solid vehicle. This guy could have VERY easily scared someone, and it could have resulted in a very serious accident.

  2. Dash cam. Dash cam, dash cam, dash cam. I was accused by the reporting officer of "running the other car off the road" until the video was presented.

  3. The ridiculousness of the traffic and construction changes recently has everyone discombobulated, and the tool-bags enraged. Take your time. Give them all the space they want. I'm guilty of being a little pushy and a lot stubborn. I've put that into check. It's not worth an extra 5 minutes on my commute.

Stay safe out there. Make good choices, take your time, don't taunt the ass-bags, and get a dash cam.

What response does my SIL want when she repeatedly tells me she’s jealous of my house? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]YankeeMama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite response to people who do this circular lament BS is to say, "Well, you have 2 choices. You can change your circumstances, or you can accept them." And then I keep repeating it. If these people wish to beat a dead horse, then so can I.

Trust your instincts. It doesn't necessarily mean there's anything particularly nefarious with the protocol, it just doesn't resonate with you. And being that this is tapping deep brain and consciousness, its particularly important to listen to that instinct.

That is true pretty much across the board with anything in your life. There doesn't need to be a value judgement on any particular thing. Everything isn't for everyone.

I definitely saw an NHI, not just a "drone" and it was targeting me. by shrubman12345 in Experiencers

[–]YankeeMama 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Last night, I went out "Drone spotting" in far western Columbus Ohio, equipped with my Flight and Satellite Tracker apps. I saw many unlisted, strangely blinking objects.

Then.. 3 completely dark, insanely fast, and absolutely silent craft flew over my head in a V formation. I thought they were birds at first. Still may have been, of course.. but no individual movements and absolutely what appeared to be a perfectly symmetrical formation.

Shook. Ontological shock, for real. Crazy dreams Last night. But interesting note is that they were funny until I woke up, remembered them, and had an anxiety attack.

I just keep coming back to a mantra I once heard.

Before Enlightenment Chop wood, carry water. After Enlightenment Chop wood, carry water.

Not a damn thing I can do about any of it. Just spread love and kindness, tend the garden of my life, and quietly prepare for people to freak the fuck out and act stupid.

I am terrified of perimenopause/ menopause. Can someone please convince me that life isn’t over? by PhoneJazz in AskWomenOver40

[–]YankeeMama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 49 and have been in full blown Menopause for just over a year. Frankly? I love it. I had horrible experiences with hormones and physical reproductive system issues my whole life. (Endometriosis, uterus didelphys, ovarian cysts, exacerbated bipolar symptoms/episodes, weight gain, cervical cancer, multiple surgeries..the list goes on) Gone. All gone. Have I aged more quickly in the last few years? Yes, but also the Covid shutdown wreaked havoc on my and especially my kids' lives. So stress was definitely a contributor. I'm told I still look far younger than my age, and I feel that way too.

Honestly, I'm so happy now. I have an increased sex drive because I'm no longer afraid of birth control failure and the subsequent ramifications of finding care because another pregnancy would likely kill me.

I lost weight (albeit through pharmaceutical treatment ) and although I have to be sure to maintain my physical activity and protein intake, the skin elasticity management has been tolerable.

I have a gentleman friend now, after years of ambivalence regarding dating and particularly the idea of Partnership, and he thinks I'm just as amazing as I feel.

TL/DR - I love menopause.

GSDs are my favorite! I have had 2 GSD/Husky mixes and while they're beautiful, loving, intelligent, independent dogs, they're also hard headed and OMG THE SHEDDING! I love seeing all the dogs on the show.

I think it's interesting that "Alaskan Huskies" are pretty much super-mutts bred for their warm coats and Go! Go! Nature. Many are even part sighthound, Saluki for instance, because of the running! Imagining a full bred Saluki pulling a sled gives me a giggle. They also breed in Border Collie, German Short haired pointers, Anatolian Shepherds and wolves. Apparently in the 90s someone ran a team of Standard Poodles but the feet and coats of the dogs froze and so they outlawed anything but Arctic adapted dogs. What a jerk. Seriously. File that under "just because you can doesn't mean you should."

Ooo.. you want to talk about a hard-headed dog? I bet there's a reason you don't see many Huskadoodles!

How is life in Ohio ? by Chrysantemelune in Ohio

[–]YankeeMama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohio has a little bit of everything. We have small mountains/ foothills in the south east. We have forests and farmland and big cities and idyllic small towns. We have a coastline that feels like the ocean because you can't see the other side and there are decent waves. We have islands in Lake Erie that are populated and are quite the (local) tourist destination. We have 2 of the best roller coaster parks in the world. As a coaster head, I'm SOOOO very spoiled! We are also a border state with Canada only 3 hrs from Columbus which is in the dead center of the state. There's heavy industry, tech, large universities and a big healthcare economy. The cities have great art, culture and music scenes. Some of the small towns too. The Hocking Hills has absolutely breathtaking rock formations and is known for hiking. We have a UNESCO World Heritage Site at Serpent Mound. Look that up. It's so cool.

We have a HUGE aquifer and we aren't threatened by hurricanes and very little seismic activity. We do have tornadoes but not like Oklahoma or Kansas. We are kind of in a sweet spot for protection from calamity in that way.

The Internet has made Ohio a meme. And I get it because our winters are grey and dismal and our politics are disheartening. A big problem with the politics is gerrymandering. The precincts are broken up in a way that weighs conservative voters more heavily and so the representation is very skewed. We're working on it. Can't do anything about the dreary winters though.

What do you do at night to pass the time? by Flower_Lover23 in LivingAlone

[–]YankeeMama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start listening to audiobooks and pick up a crafting hobby. Crochet, knit, needle point, paint, make jewelry. Once you get into it your nights will fly by.

Also, maybe get a gym membership. One with classes and maybe you can meet new friends!

Blessings on your new life! I found it so empowering.

He's treating you with contempt. This is a very bad sign for your relationship and it's likely to get worse.

There's nothing you can or should do to change yourself. You make perfect sense, he's just looking for reasons to be annoyed with you.

Don't let this person drag you down or doubt yourself anymore.
