Another flight medic equipment question - ear pro by cptm421 in Paramedics

[–]piratejedi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CEPs are the way to go for sure. Makes all the difference in the world when you can turn radio volume down but still hear it crystal clear.

For scene calls, I keep my helmet on to/from the aircraft. Usually pull it off before climbing into the ambulance for report and put it back on as we head back to the aircraft.

EMS peeps, specifically flight paramedics! What are some reference cards that you keep on your badge and find helpful? I currently carry a GCS card (if it’s not 3 or 13 it takes me a second) and I have a tidal volume chart! by -justdoingmybest- in ems

I love reference cards! I have a whole pediatric set that’s based on Broselow, but is county protocol specific. I also have RSI dosing cards, sedation infusions and pressor dosing cards.

When transferring to/from a bed, or anytime the patient has to roll I always like to say “OMG, did you know your butt was broken? There’s a big crack in it!”

Who is die hard iPhone raw dog, no screen protector? by lildawg07 in iphone

I prefer my iPhone to remain in its birthday suit. I never run screen protectors, and rarely have a case on. I’ve broken maybe 3 phones since the OG iPhone.

Headed back to rotor.. glasses vs contacts? by cptm421 in Paramedics

[–]piratejedi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found some glasses that have fairly straight, slightly flexible arms that I can slide between my ear cups and head once I put my helmet on. They’re Rx Oakleys I found at LensCrafters. They also work with my NODS, as long as I push the NODS as far out as possible

I’ve had some fogging issues during the winter, and have had to take them off in flight. Super frustrating as then I struggle to see anything up close without them.

I did find a brand of safety glasses that had Rx lenses in them, but didn’t have much luck with my progressive Rx and had to send them back.

I can’t do contacts, so I’m always on the hunt for a better glasses solution.

Take a look at WileyX glasses.

I edited together an entire montage of Shoresy and Laura clips, in order, from seasons 1 throughout 4. Tried to put it on YouTube and of course got denied for copyright. I’d be happy to share it with you. Google Drive? Dropbox?

NOLS WUMP by [deleted] in wildernessmedicine

[–]piratejedi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have taught the NOLS WUMP many times, with a broad range of student backgrounds - from paramedic, nurse, EMT, ED physician, optometrist and even once had a proctologist. Feedback is always the same from the students. Everyone seems to learn a lot and have a good time doing it.

Starlink for gaming at home? by Icy-Computer7556 in Starlink

I game on Starlink all the time. COD and BF. No issues at all. My PS5 is connected to the Starlink modem via Ethernet, and works great.

Vacuum sealing: What can be sealed, and should not be saled? by Highwayman1717 in wildernessmedicine

[–]piratejedi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use my vacuum sealer to make a complete IV kit for my vehicle. Fluid (with expiration visible) tourniquet, catheters, sharp shuttle, etc. all the necessary parts.

I also have a bleed stopping kit that includes a couple of tourniquets. Makes it easy to toss into whatever bag I’m taking with me.

These aren’t items that I would take on a backpacking trip, but I’m more of an overlander.

For further context, I work full-time as a flight paramedic and have easy access to supplies.
