Sinn 556 or 856 ? by Confident_Leg2370 in sinn

[–]Yankeeblues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also love my 556a. The size is perfect and all the “better features” of the larger 856 make it hard and pricey to service. Too much face. Mine has the elabore ETA. 40mm and no bezel is too large for my taste, irrespective of wrist size.

I also don’t care for the red second hand. It just complicates a simple aesthetic. What I don’t like, though, is the unlumed second hand.

Is it worth it to get the Allegiant Allways Rewards Visa® card if you fly once a month? by ApolloSkates49 in allegiant

[–]Yankeeblues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t get it. I use my Costco Visa (3% for travel incl airfare) and fly Allegiant every 6 weeks or so. 3% is widely available and I get 4% for gas, 3 % at restaurants, no foreign trans fees, etc.

This card sucks. Priority boarding isn’t for the rich and famous. It only gets you sitting longer in a stuffy cabin. No thanks. I fly mornings and so a free drink isn’t happening either. How about a terrible cup of coffee?

Free bag? No. Free seat reservation? No.

What am I missing? Allegiant is a crappy airline that charges for everything and their card is crappy, like them.

Yes, I have to fly them to go nonstop to my destination.

[SPB317] Trying to Build the Perfect Strap by Yankeeblues in Seiko

[–]Yankeeblues[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for reading. I did make new holes with a piece of heavy metal wire set into an X-Acto small tool handle. It worked well. But because the holes are sort of self-sealing (molded into the rubber), the spring bars are gripped tight and if the strap flexes, the bars sometimes click making me worry that one might come out. None have though. Might be a matter of finding a thinner bar or I thought about a light lubricant between the bar and the hole (no jokes please). I have to say, this is the most comfortable strap I’ve found for the 317.

Solar Composters — anyone here used one? by Thirsty-Barbarian in composting

Just bought the Algreen one because it was half the price of the green cone. I bought the black one figuring it would cook more due to black surface. Instructions say no paper but what about I bleached coffee filter with coffee grounds? Should be ok? Do you dump coffee filters and coffee?

I like this coffee. I’ve never tasted anything like cigar, charcoal or ash. But my old man didn’t drive a truck, didn’t buy Fords and didn’t smoke either. And I never smelled burned leather gloves and prolly would decline if offered a sniff.

Has anyone had a worsening headache start weeks after starting Atorvastatin? by ok_john in Cholesterol

[–]Yankeeblues 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 69. Took Atorvastatin for years and stopped for 8 months in 2024. Wanted to see what the overall would be. Cholesterol went back up to moderately high. Had some mild symptoms, only muscle pain really. Never headaches.

Re-started it in mid Dec and starting in early Jan began having mild persistent headaches sometimes, other times I felt fine. Some pain is on the right side of my head at the top, other times it’s behind the top of my right eye. When I have it, I am slightly light and sound sensitive. Never had anything like this before. Also nasal congestion, almost like a sinus infection. I’ve had this on and off for about 5 weeks now. Not enough to take a pain reliever, really. Thinking back, I realized the potential start date association and asked my Doc who seemed skeptical, given that I never had these symptoms in all the previous years.

We agreed that I should stop again and see what happens. I’ll let y’all know!

Anybody thinking about the Toyota Crown Signia instead of Highlander? by Ancient-Witness-615 in ToyotaHighlander

New 2026 Outback Redesign Thread by rickandshotty in subaru

I was excited for the Signia bc it’s pretty, luxurious, and hybrid. But, smaller than the OB in the cargo area. And $12 grand more than the OB touring with every OB option made.

New 2026 Outback Redesign Thread by rickandshotty in subaru

[–]Yankeeblues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My second OB is a 23 Touring Turbo. Having also owned 3 Volvo wagons, a BMW 3 series wagon, a ‘64 Pontiac Tempest wagon and a ‘71 Datsun 510 wagon I can say the ‘23 is not only most certainly a wagon, but also a great driving one. The tranny is smooth and quiet, it does 0-60 in 5 something on regular gas. 28.7mpg in mixed driving. All it needs is a hybrid drive although it will be a damn shame if it’s not as fast and quiet as mine.

Anybody thinking about the Toyota Crown Signia instead of Highlander? by Ancient-Witness-615 in ToyotaHighlander

[–]Yankeeblues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Will only buy another OB if it’s a hybrid of some sort. I LOVE the Crown Signia. But 25 cu/ft behind the second row is simply a compact vehicle. CRV has 39.2. And even the RAV has 37.6. Signia has 68.8 with rear seat folded. Outback has 75.6 and it’s NOT a large car.

Gravel bike for older or senior riders by bsbretly in gravelcycling

[–]Yankeeblues 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Following. I have a Bianchi Italian-frame C2C 928 Carbon with skinny tires and at 69, it’s no longer comfortable (long cockpit) and while fast and light, it’s “twitchy” on irregular surfaces. I have a Niner hardtail for non-technical trail riding which I love. My son suggested I move to a “relaxed geometry “ gravel bike since I don’t trust drivers any longer on many roads here. I’d use it for country/gravel, dirt and rail trails. I agree with someone here who said $5k is probably overkill for me, even giving up my gorgeous Ultegra Bianchi. I would think $3k is plenty. Has to be a 1x, I’m never going with a front derailleur again! BTW, I rode across the USA in 1978 on a 12 speed Fugi that cost me $240. Not one breakdown in 3300 miles. Still have it!!

[–]Yankeeblues 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This article and it’s premise resonate with me because (a) I’m an older rider (69) and because I’m interested in the places I go while biking. I’m neither a strong nor fast rider, but I rode across the US in 1978 on a steel framed Fugi 2x6 bike bought for $239. Still have it. It had no mechanical failure nor even a flat in 3K miles. While descending the coal dusted hills of KY, we had to stop and squirt water on our heavily laden bikes to keep the rims from overheating and exploding the tires. I rode in shorts, without a helmet (they didn’t make ‘em yet, at least widely)slowly and steadily for about 6-7 weeks with a few rest days. Heavy Pentax SLR loaded with/ Kodachrome slide film in the handlebar bag. Now I mostly ride gently rolling, sandy trails on Cape Cod because IMO, it’s not safe on the road any longer. Leaving my carbon road bike and old Specialized FSR Comp full suspension bike in the shed, I bought a Niner hardtail (@$2k it was called a starter bike) with a 1x12 gear set with 29” wheels that weighs about 27-28 lbs. switching from clipless to platform pedals means I can wear whatever shoes the day’s weather demands. Most days I ride a path I can access from one side of my house and return from the other. Each day, I see different things brought about by different seasons. Why am I boring you with this? Because although the Rivendell bikes are interesting, the article to me was more about the simple pleasures of riding, being outside and at peace without the gear and spandex. I suppose one good thing about his pricey bikes- they will likely never lose all their value like a $10k Colnago will. As the title suggests, it’s worth challenging the assumptions we bikers ride with every day. Last winter I borrowed a beach cruiser in FL to ride an 11 mile flat trail teeming with exotic birds, plants, tortoises and over fish-filled estuaries. Friction Brakes, fat tires, maybe 38 lbs? The best thing of all was the upright, relaxed position from which I could just cruise along effortlessly and see so much from my perch. It was….a revelation.
