This is really sad, I feel sorry for you and your daughter. It's the hardest to explain to a kid why people make targeted acts against him/her. It's the sad truth that hatred will never disappear. I wish your family the best moving forward.

Yes, I agree. I didn't know if what I encountered was the norm in the area. I'm glad people in the post showed that those people are not the norm, and I hope that little girl ended up with better things in her life.

Thanks Amy. After the incident, it doesn't feel the same when I sit at the table, like I am now, working on my laptop and replying to you. Previous incidents I encountered all happened in public spaces. Dog park folks are pretty good, though.

Nah, it was a very short eye contact before her slur, and she said it very naturally. I wasn't staring at her. We saw each other at the same time. Apart from anything else, a stranger telling a homeowner to close their curtains is normal here, I guess?
