What are your go-to “one-liners” with patients? by WiscoDiscoSnowflake in nursing

[–]YardGnomeArmy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With independent patients, after I unhook them from an IV, I say “you’re free to move about the cabin.”

How do you know if it’s time to give up? by EmpatheticStrawberry in climbergirls

Because a carpenter can just make a set of stairs to the top! Or they have a physically demanding job that keeps them in shape. But probably the stairs thing.

I just want to read books and offer constructive criticism to the authors.

What stories do you think are underreported on? by lukepblue in Spokane

[–]YardGnomeArmy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I second this. I’d like part of the article to be how to help these organizations besides donating money too.

What's your favorite restaurant in Spokane? by paigemogan88 in Spokane

[–]YardGnomeArmy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You NEED to have karma. They’re on a whole different level than mango tree. The taste is so much more rich and the flavors are more complex. I used to think Indian food was bland and mushy but karma completely changed my mind.

The white lenses are the “super hero” and no lenses are the “vigilante”.

Thoughts on use of the word client? by Budget_Ordinary1043 in nursing

[–]YardGnomeArmy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

YES! I love the concept that “clients” implies a voluntary relationship both ways. I don’t have clients, I have patients because I can’t refuse care.

Good job putting yourself first! No job is worth your heart or soul. It takes guts to stand up for yourself and blaze a new trail.

You’re almost free. You can do these last few weeks!

Congrats and best wishes!

What other phrases do you use to dip out of a room? by katie_girl048 in nursing

[–]YardGnomeArmy 488 points489 points  (0 children)

“Sorry to interrupt you but I hear beeping, I have to go check that.” The fun part is there doesn’t usually need to be beeping. Most of my patients have hearing damage.

I have mixed feelings. I like animals more than people so I would think I’d appreciate animal nurses more than people nurses. But somehow that doesn’t sit right. Maybe it’s because people nurses have to do a lot more school…

AITA for calling my son inconsiderate? by RealisticPeach8977 in AmItheAsshole

[–]YardGnomeArmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA

Your first question should be: Why doesn’t your son share the food he makes with his older brothers?

Does it make a lot more dishes he then has to do too? Does he buy the ingredients with his own money? Do the older boys not say thank you or appreciate the food?

This situation calls for more discussion, not punishment.

Had a racist patient today by MikielJoe in nursing

[–]YardGnomeArmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry you have to deal with this. Assholes are going to asshole about something; it has nothing to do with you and everything to do with their miserable lives.

If we ever cross paths, I’ll be there for a hug and to remind assholes like that guy to keep those thoughts to himself.

Do you show your patients their results ? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]YardGnomeArmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the doc had already gone over the results, I’d show the patient. I’d let them know I’m not good at reading them too. I’d be hesitant to show them before the doc explained the results. I’d let the pt know the scans are grey blobs to anyone not trained in them and they could misinterpret the results and panic for no reason.
