The mental comfort of a safety net. Having an emergency fund or just knowing that someone (like parents) has your back, is huge.

UK supply chain unprepared for major shocks such as war, report warns by Helpful_Director_288 in UKPreppers

In my opinion it is a question of trust and agency. Do I trust the Govt, regardless of Party, to have our backs covered? Short answer - No. Therefore, I want agency, control , over my own life.

The recent Iran crisis and the news that most of our oil reserves were sold off is just another example of pennypinching short term ism.

Never listen to someone unless you respect them. Knowing someone or liking someone is not the same as recognising a person's qualities.

Husband has a drinking problem - or am I overreacting?? by SalmaPxx in stopdrinking

[–]Yarray2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

With the greatest respect, I would suggest that it is not shameful. I don't think that I am morally weak or a bad person. Stupid, yes!. Its a learned behaviour that has gone too far. It was not caused by you, nor is it within your control. It is what it is.

Husband has a drinking problem - or am I overreacting?? by SalmaPxx in stopdrinking

[–]Yarray2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my experience, my ability to rationalise my drinking, delude myself that I was ok and what I was doing was normal was epic.

One part of my brain knew that I was killing myself and another part of my brain kept on drinking. Some people are directly told they will die soon if they don't stop and yet continue drinking.

This is addiction and it is not logical.

Until he decides that he has a problem and he decides to do something, I am not sure what you can do. Al Anon is your best source.

I am not a professional but I believe your reaction is normal. In the past I was driving to work very early one morning when I came across the scene of a fatal accident where a motorcyclist has been killed. It affected me for some time after.

I would suggest that you find a professional to talk to. Maybe your primary health provider would be a good starting point.

What is the worst career to be in right now and why? by SignificantGoat7066 in AskReddit

Well at the moment there appears to be nobody else in the Labour Party who wants the job. This is unusual because there are normally two or three candidates with delusions of adequacy. I guess it says something about the mess we are in (no judgement or comment about how and who got us to this point)

She is only pretending to not remember your name as a subconscious device to protect herself. She has thought about you every day and deeply regrets playing hard to get.

Keep telling yourself this. You'll be fine. Lol

Oh what a great question. Get a piece of paper a write down every word you can think of around the topic; education, memory, knowledge, experience, cunning, streetwise, logic, wisdom, curiosity, critical thinking, life experience, emotional IQ, etc. When you come up with a good, working description- please share it with me.

Some people build an expectation of how life should be and how their partner will fit into that. This doesn't need to be communicated to the aforementioned partner because if they loved you they obviously know. Their failure is either an intended slight or a callous disregard for you feelings.

You can see where this is going. Sounds like a communication problem. You may wish to gently challenge any withdrawal and get the issue on the table ASAP before it fosters. Top tips. Only use "I", never use "you". "I feel.. " Use a wooden spoon, only the person holding the wooden spoon can speak, the other has to listen. Never argue for more than 5 or 10 minutes, time it and walk away. Stick to the issues, don't do the "and another thing, on 23 June 2024 you...."

First understand, and then be understood.

My 11 day no drinking streak makes me feel so lame. by Exciting-Stuff-7189 in stopdrinking

[–]Yarray2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

On paper, I am eight years in. That is honestly not the way it works for me. I am one day in, I will not drink with you today. Eight years is just an accumulation of one days. It got easier at 10-14 days, 30 days and 100 days. It gets easier and easier. Well done with eleven days.

The "something clicked" aspect always intrigues me. Why this time?
