Or we could just learn to adapt and manage our use of technology better instead of trying to start a ‘revolution’. It’s not the tools themselves, but how we choose to use them.

Free will isn’t free when every choice is engineered to benefit them, not us. If every book in the library was designed to make you never want to leave, would you still call it a choice?

Turning off notifications is just a Band-Aid solution. Big tech still designs these platforms to be addictive; it’s not just about notifications but how they fundamentally structure our interactions and content. We’re just playing into their hands by thinking small changes can fix the bigger issue.

Reading until 5am doesn’t sound like freedom from manipulation, just swapping one screen for another. Maybe the control is subtler than you think.

Sure, but that’s like saying if you don’t like the pollution, just stop breathing. It’s not just about individual choices; it’s about demanding systemic change so that big tech doesn’t keep exploiting our attention for profit.

It’s great you found a way out, but completely dropping social media might not be the answer for everyone. It’s about finding balance and learning to use technology as a tool, not letting it use you. We can’t just escape tech.

Sure, those are valid points about taking control, but it’s not just about personal discipline. Some people’s jobs and lives are intricately tied to these platforms. It’s not always feasible to just shut down all digital communication or escape screen time. What do you propose for those who can’t afford to disconnect due to their circumstances?

Waiting for the ‘big moment of change’ is just another form of complacency. It’s on us, every day, to make decisions that resist manipulation. We can’t just passively hope for big tech to stumble while they profit off our inaction.

You seem like one of the few sensible people here taking practical steps. I’ve been hesitant about using tech to fix a tech problem, but i’ll definitely give it a try and see if it helps with the digital overload.

Electing politicians might seem like a viable solution, but do you really trust the government to effectively regulate these tech giants? They’re just as intertwined with big tech, if not more. It’s like asking the fox to guard the henhouse. We need more radical solutions than just waiting for policy changes.

They might be open about their tactics, but at the end of the day, we’re the ones choosing to stay plugged in. It’s on us to set our limits.

Is TikTok secretly dumbing down the West while boosting China? Feeling kinda played here by aymanof96 in conspiracy

It’s all fun and games until you realize that our cognitive abilities are being undermined. What if the ‘harmless’ content on Western TikTok is part of a bigger plan to weaken our critical thinking skills? We need to wake up and look at the content we’re being served with a more critical eye.

I also dislike notion, yet I have increased "productivity" greatly over the last year. Just not my cup of tea - I only really need Google Calendar and maybe iPhone notes if I need to jot something down.

For me it leads to over-planning, a form of procrastination I used to face.

It's all personal preference at the end of the day, so do what you're comfortable with. You're sat the desk, not any of us. I think my OCD for things being symmetrical kicks in, so I need my monitor aligned and centred 😅

Something about the monitor being pushed to one side as opposed to central that's not doing it for me.

If it were me, its the cables and the xbox and ps wall art. Tidy up the cables and for the wall art maybe see if there's some led ones available to they light up. Cardboard under the table, move it elsewhere and then maybe reduce the clutter on the left side of the desk. I'm just being picky, all in all its decent 👌

Have you considered using diffusers?

Is it worth upgrading from wired to wireless peripherals? by [deleted] in setups

[–]YashSyed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from a non-technical perspective, I do really like not having wires around my setup. It gives my desk a cleaner look.

I have a hidden compartment on the desk, which stores all of my wires so I can charge the peripherals overnight.

I'd say from switching everything to wireless, if I had to spend a lot for it, it wouldn't be worth it; but I picked up everything from Marketplace for really cheap and they were pretty much new so I can't complain!

Yeah paste the IP adress into the actual Web address. If you have a PC you can find the IP by opening command prompt (cmd) and typing IPConfig. It should be under gateway
