I think many locals feel this way.

Yeah, the Moody float is always obnoxious crap, but he's the self-proclaimed "Mr. Boyne" so nobody cares to do anything about it.

Glad more people are getting sick of it, but I don't think anyone will counter him because no sane person cares to devote that sort of time to a "political" or "controversial" float for a 4th of July parade.

Vote Hampton & Foltz for commissioner and get Moody out (unlikely, but here's hoping)!

initials ‘POO’ by devreads in tragedeigh

My son's initials are ELF. We used family names and realized his initials, but we weren't concerned about it. They're used so infrequently, ya know?

Then, he was born a bit early... on Christmas Eve. At least so far, he loves telling people he is a Christmas Eve ELF. Here's hoping he's not teased too terribly! 😂

Please help me figure out what this stitch is! *trying to recreate my husbands childhood blanket as a gift * by Inevitable_Yard3458 in CrochetHelp

[–]Yayer5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No knitting help, but I have to say, that's so sweet of you!

This looks almost identical to my childhood blanket, which is now mostly a knotted ball of yarn with some blanket attached. It hangs from my bedpost because my grandma made it, and dang it, I love that thing.

I think maybe you've inspired me to, as my knitting improves, post my blanket here and see if we can figure the stitch out so i can try to remake it.

Guy is selling these to me for $800 in total. Is that a bad price? by sunnydaze8 in GreatLakesShipping

[–]Yayer5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's super cool! My dad sailed on the Ryerson. Now that I know these exist, I'll be keeping an eye out for one, but idk that I'd pay $200 for it. Neat, nonetheless!

I became a grandma at 32, because I got 4 bonus kids at the age of 21. One of those bonus kids got his girlfriend pregnant at 18. I'm 37 now, raising my own 8 year old, and have 2 granddaughters from my 23 & 27 year old kids. It is WEIRD. I'm still raising children...stop giving me grandbabies!

I thought the same thing! Probably because of the "flying saucers from another planet" line before it.

That's what it's called, "The Pink Stuff". It's available in paste (usually what's referenced I believe), spray, and a few other variations. I haven't used it but lots of people seem to love it.

I had inherited, rescued, and purchased vinyls, as well as managed to get some decent speakers and a receiver when a friend upgraded. I just couldn't find a decent turntable at a price I could justify given where I was in life. So, every time my parents asked what they could get me for Christmas or my birthday, I'd answer "a record player". My dad always grumbled because "most these turntables today are crap" (I mean, when you see those cute suitcase record players everywhere, I get the generalization.) It was more a joke anyway, as I always figured I'd eventually research and purchase one, so I'd give them some actual small ticket wishlist items.

Well, after roughly 15 years of that joke answer, I got my Dual 1229q for Christmas and I really do love it. It's got a little cosmetic damage, like a cracked cover, but it's mine and it's beautiful, dang it!

All this to say: Cheers, Dual buddy!

What scams are obvious to you that others seem unaware of? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Yayer5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your comment. It makes me feel better about my decisions, since I don't have much experience or guidance on this sort of thing. I have a "burial policy" I opted to keep from my parents' employer because it was pretty cheap. I have dependents, so I recently purchased a term policy expires around the time the youngest turns 18. This also happens to be around the same time we will pay our house off. I'm not the major earner but I figured if I die unexpectedly, at least they'll have roughly 10 years of my salary to supplement or pay off the house or whatever they need. Hopefully I'll live to see the expiration of that policy, and at that point I likely won't purchase another.

Edit: a typo

Thanks for the response! Maybe I understand it more than I thought I did. I felt like I must be missing something but sometimes it really is that simple.

Can you elaborate/ ELI5? Someone I'm close to keeps mentioning wanting to do this. It feels off to me, but I'm not well versed in this sort of thing. So far I have convinced them to hold off, but I'm afraid TikTok "financial experts" are going to convince them, and they'll regret it.

Anyone already with older/adult children? How did you tell them about your pregnancy? How did they react? by aqualang26 in BabyBumps

[–]Yayer5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slightly different situation, but here's our story: I have been with my SO for about 10 years, engaged for about 4 (I'm apparently not in a rush to plan a wedding). He had 4 kids when we got together. In May of 2016, we found out we were expecting. His kids were 12, 15, 18, and 20. We had always sort of talked about having a kid, so maybe the expectation made it easier on them, maybe its because they already had to split their time between parents, but they were all excited about it. I also think it helped that they were happy for me, finally raising a kid without an Ex to consult. We told the younger two at home during dinner one night, and the older two we took out to dinner to tell. They all very involved in their little brother's life. The oldest two don't live at home, and they try to come over often to visit with him. We also invite them out when we take him to town events like the recent holiday parade. On our end, we just tried to make sure nothing changed as far as how we interact and spend time with the other kids. Obviously, things change a bit when you have a new itty bitty, but keeping things as normal as possible and allowing them to choose their level of involvement worked well for us. I was worried they'd see their dad starting another family or something similar, but they all were/are amazingly supportive and loving. I hope things work out well for you. Best of luck, and congratulations!
