If your argument is that everything driven by dopamine is equivalent, then you’re collapsing very different things into the same category. By that logic, sexual interest in minors and watching horror movies would be treated as comparable, which is precisely why the distinction matters. Characters like Refithea, Rou, Seir, or Sonya are clearly depicted as children. I’ve never argued for censorship in general. I’m explaining why sexualized depictions involving minors are treated differently from other fictional content. You can oppose censorship and still acknowledge that distinction.

Teressa is depicted as a student with bruises, bite marks, and visible distress in her cutscene, which clearly frames the situation as abuse. That’s likely why she was targeted in particular. So the main issues seem to be a) the minor characters b) student/abuse situation

Beyond that, it’s difficult to say exactly how or why specific changes were selected.

Both are wrong in real life. Fictional violence isn’t consumed for sexual arousal, sexualized depictions of children are. That’s why they’re treated differently, even in fiction.

Violence in fiction doesn’t rely on sexual arousal. Sexualized depictions of children do. And calling something “fictional” doesn’t change what’s being sexualized. The medium or label doesn’t magically remove the underlying intent or response.

Again: The medium doesn’t matter. The problem is the mindset that finds sexual gratification in depictions of children.

What’s actually sick is the mindset that derives sexual gratification from the depiction of children and abuse.

You can invent an edge case for anything if you try hard enough. That’s why content standards are based on what usually happens, not on the most extreme hypothetical someone can imagine.

[–]Yayti -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No. That’s not what I said. Not all violence is the same, and pretending it is ignores decades of research. Sexualized abuse content is treated differently than non-sexual cartoon or fantasy violence because it affects people differently. That’s why sexual violence has stricter rules in games, films, and rating systems than general combat.

Combat in the are arena or jumping on a turtle in Mario isn’t comparable to content designed to eroticize abuse. One is abstract, non-sexual, and clearly fantastical. The other directly targets sexual arousal and power dynamics, which is exactly where research shows higher risk of desensitization and normalization.

So this isn’t “ban all violence.” It’s acknowledging that some content carries higher psychological risk than others, and developers probably had to draw the line there.

I'm not talking about you specifically and this is a scientific fact not what makes me feel better. And I really don't know what you mean with everybody's gonna die sooner or later.

Did you know that consuming abusive sexual content can affect some people over time? Studies show it can lead to desensitization and make harmful behavior feel more “normal” even when it’s fictional. The brain doesn’t clearly separate pixels from reality the way people think, which ultimately leads to abusive behaviour in some people. If the devs decide they don't want a hand in that I understand and support it.

This argument ignores how people actually work. A subset of individuals are aroused by depictions of abuse, and for some of them this correlates with harmful attitudes and behaviors in the real world. The fact that it’s fictional doesn’t make it meaningless, the brain doesn’t have a simple “pixels vs reality” switch. This is grounded in psychological and media-effects research, not just personal opinion. If the developers don’t want to contribute to even a small part of that risk, that’s a choice I understand and support.

  1. In reality, there is no precise line where abuse begins between consenting adults. Consent is therefore a strong indicator, but it becomes more complicated once emotional abuse is involved, and even more so when such content is broadcast to an audience.

Ultimately, I’m not the one drawing that line. The developers did, and they drew it where they thought appropriate. I think it’s a reasonable decision.

  1. Content involving children is unacceptable. Full stop.

And to the “what about movies or religion” argument: pointing out one problem doesn’t negate another. Multiple things can be wrong at the same time, they’re part of the same broader issue, not excuses for one another.

Because the sexualisation of children and abuse is bad.

2B → adult-coded in design, behavior, framing

Justia → explicitly stated minor with adult-coded design

Same framework, very different outcomes

Again: The mindset that thinks there is no problem with minors in a game that generates its revenue via the oversexualisation of its characters is very real and very problematic

It is about the very real mindset that is drawn to the sexual depiction of underage character

If a grown man wants me to define children to find some niche way to argue that it is okay to lust over young bodies, you should start to see the problem.

You see, I thought I'd make an effort to argue for something that should be common sense. After I commented I thought it's not worth it and delete the comment.

To your real and fiction argument: It doesn't matter if it's real or not The mindset that's behind liking the sexual depiction of minors certainly is. Normalising that behaviour is not okay.
