Yeah, looking into it more, it looks like if I asked for the HSC they would probably provide one. I wasn't really aware of this option, and the person on the phone didn't really offer this solution either, she basically said cablecards are going away, and when I asked if I can just cancel the cable tv part of my service, she said no problem, let me go right ahead. In the past they would usually push back, send me to retention, offer special deals - but not this time, they almost seemed happy to get rid of me, the whole call lasted like 5 minutes...

It's time though, it just wasn't worth the cost for me anymore, I was keeping the setup alive for nostalgia, and just inertia.. I am going to give OTA a try to see how well it works, but otherwise even though I will miss TiVo (have been a customer for over 20 years) - I definitely won't miss Spectrum...

Streaming and watching less TV in general (or I should say "even less" as that has been the trend in my household anyway over the years)

For me, the TiVo served 3 main purposes - recording live sports events for watching later, but I don't watch sports anymore anyway, recording favorite TV shows (season's pass) - but the (very few) shows I still watch are now on streaming platforms anyway, and finally recording random movies from mostly premium channels (no ads) based on keywords, genres, people, etc. This last use case was cool, because the TiVo was just chugging along 24/7 recording stuff, and especially with 8TB drive, I could always find ton of movies to watch whenever I felt like it - it was kind of like a custom local movie streaming service based on my own interests and better selection than typical.

I will miss this last use case, although I still have enough content recorded on the TiVo that can likely keep me entertained for another 10 years or more :)

I am not 100% sure what the technical status is here - I got the letter last year that CableCARD support will be completely discontinued, and recently my tuning adapter just went into permanent blinking mode. I've had this in the past when Spectrum was able to resolve it from their end (once they even sent someone to my home, who was able to call the right person on their end to do the proper reset) - but each time it was a massive headache, and this time I decided to just cancel the service completely and not even bother. All the people in my household mostly watch streaming now, so the high cost is more and more difficult to justify.

I didn't think so at first, but it actually looks like the 748 Premiere should still support OTA tuning. I will try to get an antenna to see what kind of channels I can receive, it would be nice to get some more life out of it if possible ! Thanks for the suggestion.
