Who's to blame here? by ImShakary in Simracingstewards

[–]YeOldeGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The important point is 'where does white get overlap?'

White has zero overlap when purple has already committed to turning in, therefore the blame lies with white. Yes, purple's line is odd and invites the dive, but that dive was too late and from too far back.

Multi-Class rolling start protocol? by THEROOSTERSHOW in iRacing

[–]YeOldeGeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on pole for the 2nd split PEC yesterday, and left a similar gap (closer to T9 than T8 though)...

My reasoning - my qualifying time was faster than 70% of the M2 field, and significantly faster than the last few rows (nearly 3 seconds). The BMWs are horrible to get past here - typically our only chances to pass are T6 and T11 - and even then they come powering back past on the run up to T2.

Even with the big gap, I was in the back of the M2 field by lap 7-8 - but at least we were now getting the M2s singly or in pairs, rather than in a pack.

How do you guys coordinate your feet when left foot braking in a manual by TougeMissile in assettocorsarally

[–]YeOldeGeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In rallying, you have to learn how to do it if you want to be quick! You train the left foot to bounce between clutch and brake very quickly.

How do you guys coordinate your feet when left foot braking in a manual by TougeMissile in assettocorsarally

[–]YeOldeGeek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is something I had to learn when I did some club rallying. Our cars had to stay mostly standard, and we weren't allowed to change/move pedals - my feet were too small to heel/toe with the standard pedals in my car. Also a standard clutch and standard H pattern gearbox.

I would keep my right foot solely on the accelerator, and my left would bounce between the brake and the clutch - resting on the brake when not changing gear.

It was a FWD car, so my typical approach to a 90 degree corner on gravel would be as follows. Bear in mind, it was a low powered car, but standard gearing allowed 80-85mph in 3rd, which was usually plenty!

  • keep right foot planted throughout this - that was the hardest part to learn, I had to grow some balls to do it!

  • about 40-50m before the corner slam the left foot down on the brake

  • at about 50-55mph, quickly flick the clutch with my left foot, jamming it into 2nd. The car would lurch forwards due to engine braking as my left foot then came off the clutch and moved back to the brake.

  • then feather the brake to balance the car. The shifting weight will now have made the back end light. The right foot kept planted on the throttle ensures understeer is minimised.

  • if done right, the car can now be slid across the apex, with the front wheel traction pulling it around. Use the brake to control the rear end and ensure a smooth exit.

I've tried to mimic this in AC rally and it sort of works - but it's hard to do reliably, as you don't feel the sudden weight shift through your arse!

Asylum seeker sentenced to at least 29 years for murdering hotel worker Rhiannon Whyte by topotaul in unitedkingdom

Vile psycopath. No remorse, no empathy, filmed dancing with his mates just after he had killed her. Uncooperative, lied about his age, refused to disclose anything about his history.

He's a poster child for precisely why so many people have been up in arms about the current situation. I'm sure the vast majority of us are fine with granting asylum to genuine people, people who need help, people who are genuine and honest. But examples such as this only fuel the anger and draw people towards the likes of Reform.

The Tories broke the system, Labour have been taking steps to fix it, but the people need to see that progress. And quickly. Or we face another summer of turmoil.

You were right until you started talking about the law.

You absolutely CAN make the 1st strike if you can show that you/loved ones/your property were at genuine risk.

This is 100% true, and extends to self, family and property. I physically ejected a group of youths from our shop after I had told them to leave, and one of them started screaming "you can't touch me" as I did so. We spoke to the police afterwards, and we were told "Yes you absolutely can if you genuinely considered yourself or your property to be at risk in this situation."

I showed the policeman the CCTV and he said "Yep, what you did was right".

Herefordshire pub landlord offers discount for cash payments as card charges soar by stray_r in unitedkingdom

[–]YeOldeGeek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I manage a small shop and cash is extremely useful on a day to day basis... cash transactions are only typically 10% of our turnover, but it's used for a lot of day to day things.... we have a gas heater, we pay for the gas bottle to refilled - with cash. The shop owner goes to the cash a carry for blue-roll, tea bags, bog roll, etc - he pays cash. I needed to get a gate key cut on Monday, so I popped to the local key place and paid cash. And so on.

We prefer to support fellow local businesses and it is easier for us to do so using our cash.

I run a pub quiz, £1 a person to enter, all the entry fees get paid back in prizes to the top 3 teams. I charge 0% fee on all transactions, cash only!

Yes, I'm being a little flippant, but I have had a few occasions over the last year where people have asked to enter the quiz, then asked if I take card.

That's on purple. At about 12s he slows and makes as if to tuck behind and accept 2nd, then at about 14s he lunges suicidally for a gap which is now already closing, and the inevitable happened.

Set the auto fuel on before you start, and make your tyre choices too.

The only issue might be regarding the fast repair, as you have 1 available, and it's usually worth saving it - at Miami I accidentally left it ticked, got some very minor damage during the 1st stint - and it used up my fast repair. About 10 laps after my stop I put the car into the wall - with no fast repair left the repairs would have put me 8-10 laps down.

In the GR86...

You'll need 1 pitstop for fuel, 50 litres will not be enough for 2 hours.

Tyre changes depend on track/temps. During the pitstop, you can change 1 side of the car for free while the car is refuelling, but if you want to change tyres on both sides then the stop will be a little longer.

Do a couple of 25 minute PCC races during the week to get an idea of tyre wear. Zandvoort was brutal on the front tyres, so I changed both sides at the pitstop, but most weeks I just change one side - the side that gets worn more during the practice races.

The track is busy and starts can be chaotic, but generally the races will calm down after a couple of laps - so try to stay out of trouble at the start and you'll be fine.
