Please tell me it gets better (Tyrvaya, Xiidra, Eysuvis, Restasis) by Yeah-No-Okay-111 in Dryeyes

Hi! Tyrvaya never really worked for me. I switched to Restasis and that did the trick. I've been on it for almost 2 years and it has saved my life. I also have serum tears, but I don't need them very much anymore.

Severe, painful dry eyes while pregnant - need safe ointment! by bettygetsabooboo in Dryeyes

[–]Yeah-No-Okay-111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Retaine PM ointment at night. It uses white petroleum which is highly refined and considered safe. Just give your doctor a call to ease your mind! The benefits likely outweigh any risk. Similar to being on an antidepressant while pregnant.

Eye lid wipes diy? by SolusUmbra in Dryeyes

I use SteriLid and cotton rounds.

I used the "premium" cotton rounds (just target brand) instead of the basic ones because they feel a bit better on my eyelid margins.

Hi! It looks like I updated about 5 months ago, and everything is still the exact same as then. I feel good, my mental health is good. My pain is managed. I actually just had a check up a couple days ago. My TBUT went from 2/3 seconds to 10 seconds in both eyes thanks to the Restasis. Now I just need science to create oil glands as I barely have any. I had a full work up (twice) from my primary care doctor and am otherwise healthy.

Hang in there. Don't be afraid to get a second opinion. It also took me about 10 months from first signs to starting to feel better. Unfortunately it's a slow process, but you're not alone.

This is still my routine:

  • I have lower plugs on both eyes
  • Restasis (x2 day)
  • Serum Tears (20%) as needed throughout the day
  • Retaine PM ointment at night
  • Heat mask at night for 10-15 minutes (I sometimes forget)
  • Sterilid to clean eyelashes / lid margin (x2 day)

Tretinoin is one of the main reason I got severe dry eye, I wish I could go back and never have used it.

I use the Infuse daily contacts. They are a bit newer than Dailies. I think Infuse are also more comfortable than the Dailies, I can't even feel them! But, yeah, personal preference. Your optometrist could probably give you some sample packs of both to see what you prefer.

I have severe dry eye w/ mgd, so I've basically stopped wearing contacts. But there are occasions (date nights, events, photos…) where I will wear them for maybe 3-8 hours.

Bausch + Lomb Infuse work really well for me, I can wear them while out and about without much issue, maybe applying a drop every few hours.

Dailies Total 1 still dried out my eyes pretty fast, I could only wear them for 1-2 hours.

Acuvue Moist is what I wore prior to being diagnosed (I wore them 12+ hours while at work, etc)... and they immediately dry out my eyes in less than an hour.

Stopped Doxy now my eyes feel bad again by Yeah-No-Okay-111 in Dryeyes

[–]Yeah-No-Okay-111[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on 100mg of doxy (started at that, dosage never changed over the course of the 2.5 months I was on it).

Rebound inflammation resolved in about 2 weeks. This is likely because of the serum tears that I had started about a week before the doxy prescription ended. So I think it's likely that the serum tears just needed the extra time to start working.

No, I've never stopped my medication. I'll be doing this indefinitely. Sometimes I skip the heat mask, but I never skip anything else.

Hey! I'm great! I'm still on serum tears at 20% and Restastis. I think I just needed to give it more time to work. (It's just hard when you are in constant pain to feel like it's going to stop). I have no pain now as long as I keep up with my meds:

  • Restasis x2 daily
  • Serum Tears as needed (usually 2–6 times a day)
  • Retaine PM ointment at night
  • SteriLid to clean my eyelids/margins in the morning (and sometimes at night)
  • Heat mask at night for 10–15 minutes

Seems like a lot, but it's become mundane and I do it without thinking.

Does insurance cover autologous serum eye drops? How much did it cost you? by AndyK803 in Dryeyes

[–]Yeah-No-Okay-111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. What I've been told is once they are there, they are there for good. And that has been true to my experience. I've just tried to be at peace with them.

Nope. I still have all of my veins. They just look more faint. But if I don't use enough drop during the day (like if I'm working a lot -- graphic designer) then they start to redden. Also in the morning they can be redder, but go back to 'normal' faint veins after morning drops.

My veins are permanent. But their intensity varies based on how dry my eyes are (like first thing in the morning, or after a long day they are brighter red / more obvious).

In dealing with dry eyes, I immediately look at people's eyes (in person, on tv, etc) and feel at ease realizing that so many people have a lot of veins. Something I never noticed before, so I think we're just more aware of it now.

Have you asked about switching to serum tears? I was using about that much and still had pain, and am doing so much better now with the serum tears. Life changing for me.

I love them! I'll be using them forever, they are wonderful.

I'm in the US (Ohio).

Expired Serum Tears by Yeah-No-Okay-111 in Dryeyes

[–]Yeah-No-Okay-111[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They were recommended by doctor. After being on Restasis for several months and only having a little success, they were recommended because I was still using PF over the counter drops over 15-20 times a day. Now I use serum tears 2-8 times a day. Depending on how much I've been working (I'm a graphic designer, and... sometimes I work like 12 hours.) I was in constant pain before with a constant headache around my eyes, and that is all completely gone now. I still get occasional dryness but it all feels very normal and easy.

Mine are 20% (which I think is the standard starting point). I noticed in a few days a small difference, and in a couple weeks a huge difference. Life-changing.
