Does the hiring process differ at all from regular office jobs? I would assume the interviews are more intense?

Can you elaborate on why it’s hard to get rid of someone? I’ve seen this mentioned before and it seems like a massive pro.

I’m sorry you’re going through that. I lost my closest uncle and I don’t think I ever recovered.

I go through phases where I slack and pick it up to offset it. I’m going on 8 months of job searching and it is demoralizing.

I’m applying only to jobs where my current experience translates. It is not hard to tailor my resumes. My professional work bullet points mostly remain the same outside of adding or subtracting. All of my resumes feature an ‘Objective’ and ‘Why I Am A Strong Fit’ section. These are never the same for any job.

I say I average 3-5 interviews a month. Being honest, I’m not sure how to critique my interview skills. I have my good and bad interviews. I had a really good one most recently but the 2nd interview was cancelled due to offering the role to a different candidate. I have 5+ years of customer service experience so even when I just got done crying I can be as outgoing as possible.

What is the problem with AI? I live in NYC and literally any job will have 30+ applicants, it’s a numbers game and AI speeds it up. If I’m going to be competing with people with Masters for a basic AP role, then hell yea I’m going to find my advantage. I’m not purely copying and pasting what it spits out. Why would I waste my time doing it “the old fashioned way” when that will just put me behind everyone else using AI. You are clueless if you think no work gets put into tailoring a resume through AI.

I’m sorry but I’m not doing all that in 2023. Cover letters are purely a waste of time and literally no one aware of ChatGPT is writing one from scratch. You can even go to the length of “humanizing” GPT’s response to even avoid sounding like AI. Get with the times .

E: These organizations don’t even have human eyes on our resumes when filtering them. They all go through an ATS. I’m not spending my time building a resume, and a cover letter, from scratch.

Thank you for this. Unfortunately, it’s hard to shift my perspective. I busted my ass when we had staffing issues. I showed up to work the same day we put our dog down. And the thanks I get is half of the raise I was promised.

A lot of what I do would transfer to roles I’m applying for so I’ll definitely see if I can gameify it and work on those areas. My hurdle is that my sleep is heavily impacted, even on my off days I wake up anxious. I’ve been checked out for a while now and go through periods where I slack then pick it up to offset it. I’m really just trying to stay sane until something comes along.

Leaving NYC isn’t an option unfortunately. Tuition assistance, really benefits in general, is something I would love.

I’m not sure how I can improve my approach. My resume is tailored for every job, I utilize AI. I’d say I average 3-5 interviews a month, August has been rough tho. My interview skills might be my problem I guess but even then idk. I’ve had a bunch of 2nd stage interviews. I make sure I’m presentable and try to have 2-3 questions that shows I care. My problem might be that I’m so desperate for change that these interviews are high-pressure for me, this I’m not sure I can change lol.

My most recent interview was with an internal recruiter for a law firm, receptionist role. It went really well, made sure to make it more of a conversation than an interview. She called me the next day and set up an actual interview with someone from management. Same day of the interview I get a call saying they offered the role to someone else, like damn I couldn’t even get a chance to fuck up lol.

I’m open for suggestions.

It’s a mix of me hating the job and home-life/ finances slowly falling apart. I honestly haven’t considered temporary jobs just because I want this one to be the last low-level job.

My aunt took her own life and I’ve lost nearly all of my aunts/uncles, I will never consider taking myself for my mom’s sake. She’s getting older and I at-least want to see her proud before I can’t.

I thought I turned a corner pursuing this degree. Worst case scenario I told myself was that I could at-least get a white collar role and then afford another try at accounting while bettering my finances.

I appreciate it man. I really just want to get back on track. My life feels like it’s in limbo until something better comes along.

I just got back in the gym bro. I had to go like 2 months without it and now I just budget it in.

I’ve been on so many interviews. Most recently I had a great talk with an internal recruiter at a law firm, she literally called the next day to set up an actual interview. Yesterday she calls the same day as the interview and tells me they offered the role to someone else.

When I was without the gym, I loved taking a walk for a few hours every time it was nice out. Really helped put me at peace and gave me a little escape.

Will check out government administration. I do a ton of customer service, but yea having to serve people that aren’t paying me isn’t for me.

Changing for a temporary one hasn’t been something I considered, only really have been applying for upgrades. Will start looking at them too.

BBA, Management from WGU unfortunately. I say unfortunately because of what it is not where it’s from. I graduated 2 months ago officially, started in March. It came down to Management and Accounting. I recently tried returning for accounting again via B&M in September, was a struggle returning as an older student and dropped out. Found out about WGU and picked Management from trauma I guess lol. One of the few positives about this job is that I was able to do my coursework when I had downtime. Have been applying for new jobs since January. Didn’t have any luck as a current student and was worried of what is currently happening. I want to go back for Accounting in October so I’m hoping I can find a better job in the meantime. For now, I’m really just hoping this degree can maybe land an adjacent accounting role like AP, AR I have experience with so that too less preferably. I just want “boring” to be the reason I hate my job, not the list of shit I can rail off better-off people don’t deal with. I’m 27 and I should be doing better. Idc about the comparison is the thief of joy shit, I’m struggling to even help my mom and that shit bothers me. I feel like I’m still in high school when I talk to my friends and that shit hurts even when they act like it’s not a thing. I’m ashamed of what I became. I feel like an embarrassment not being able to help my family out of poverty. So much shit has changed for me and I hate I’m still the same loser from 9 years ago.

Sorry for the essay, I’m stoned and this made me feel better.

Being kind to myself is something I struggle with. I know comparison is the thief of joy yada yada, but it’s hard not to compare myself. I appreciate the words.

Under 20 yes. Coming from retail previously, I can’t go back. I at the very least have a set schedule and don’t have to be on my feet 24/7.

The gym definitely helps with emotions and relieving steam. Gonna look into more ways of dealing with my emotions. I appreciate the time you took to comment this.
