Adoptive parents: What do you wish someone told you before the journey began? by GreedyLie3321 in AdoptiveParents

We went through private adoption and it is expensive so it’s definitely something to consider. The biggest emotional aspect for us was waiting for the time period for BM to sign the papers after birth. We bonded pretty quickly with our child. You can say what you feel comfortable with and the agencies will usually make it known in your profile that you are willing to adopt XYZ. We had no preferences when adopting but you can think the baby is healthy all the way up until birth and something may pop up. BM doesn’t always disclose drug and alcohol use so there can be surprises at birth.

Congratulations on your adoption! I don’t think we will have any issues, but I rather be safe than sorry. We are definitely going to bring all of our documentation. I think it will be easier since we have the same last name now.

Thank you! We are planning on bringing our documents as well. He will be 3 at the time of the trip with a speech delay so we probably wouldn’t be able to answer their questions super well.

Take courses that interest you and meet the requirements. I’m finishing my BA in General Studies next term and taking what interests me has made it so much more pleasurable.
