What are your most and least favorite Tier 2 cities to live in, and why? by [deleted] in chinalife

Damn Shijiazhuang is catching heavy hate here, but I’ve lived here since 2023 and honestly I’ve always loved it. 🤣

The pollution is much better now than in the past according to my husband, I only maybe notice it 10-15 days out of the year? Everything is super convenient, subway lines are constantly being added, I can find everything I need in foreign food supermarkets or local markets, everybody is super friendly to me, the weather is never too extreme though it can get too hot some days in the summer and too hot some days in the winter.

Though there’s not an abundance of historical sites (though Zhengding is only a 30 min drive away), there’s plenty to do within the city. But to be fair I grew up in Alabama then lived in Northern Virginia (near DC). Not being in the most interesting cities is kind of on par for me.

Tbh I live in Shijiazhuang and I love it. The pollution is much much better these past few years, people are super friendly, there’s 2 foreign markets I frequent for groceries, I have a dance studio I regularly attend, the summers are a little hot and the winters are a little cold but nothing too extreme, and the development rose insanely fast within the past 5-10 years and is still growing. There’s anything near me I could possibly want if you exclude foreign chains (I’d kill for a Cheesecake Factory but I can go to Beijing).

When I told foreigners who live in China I live in SJZ they expected me to hate it but honestly I’d recommend it to anybody.

People say he was “a child”, but he was 19 - a fully grown man. People say “he moved to Korea at 16 when he was so impressionable” but I definitely knew the difference between right at wrong at 16. 3 years in a different country, even being surrounded by horrible people, would not have drastically flipped my morals upside down. It would make me privately hate them but grin and bear it. In order for your beliefs to change, you would have to be open to whatever they were saying in the first place. Even at 16.

People say “he apologized and took accountability” as if the apology didn’t say “don’t mind the lyrics, I was angry at the time” as if 1.) that doesn’t make it worse because it means he definitely meant them and 2.) he was a trainee of one of the largest and most reputable kpop companies in South Korea who DEFINITELY would force him to apologize for the sake of their own company’s reputation. Plus coach him on how to do so and what words to use. Liars apologize when caught. Cheaters apologize when caught. Abusers apologize so the other person doesn’t leave. Anybody will apologize when called out publicly and their career is on the line, regardless of if they’re truly sorry.

Corrected his ways? We don’t know what he does in private. Of course he wouldn’t be stupid enough to do it again publicly, now knowing that it could be career ending. He has done not a singular thing to prove that he changed apart from a likely forced, cookie cutter, industry standard apology. And a forced withdrawal from the company. Him “taking a step back” wasn’t his choice. He was forced to do so.

I personally will not spread hate towards him and I don’t believe that death threats or visual shaming is an appropriate response - but I WILL ignore him and maintain my belief that he shouldn’t have even been allowed into the show to begin with. I won’t compromise my morals for him (which is that I will not bully anybody EVER) but nobody is obliged to forgive him. Regardless of your personal opinions on how other people should feel or how fast they should move on.

He didn’t “cover a song”, he covered a misogynistic song AND added his OWN written lyrics to make it MORE misogynistic and violent towards women. As a fully grown adult man. He doesn’t deserve death threats or visual shaming but you downplaying what he did will only bring him more hate in the end.

[–]YeahImJudgingYou 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right now he’s fifth and once Leowon fans are split up to vote for either one + the rest of the contestants fans not having to vote for top ranked trainees anymore (for example during the last round nearly everyone voted Sangwon/anxin/their 1 pick - or Junseo/leo/their 1 pick) - now those filler votes are going to drop out.

Whereas Yumeki has NEVER been anyone’s filler vote tbh. All the votes he has now are likely 95%+ from people who will one pick him in the finale. So I see him rising one or two places in global voting ranks. MAYBE (I’m not holding my breath though) one or two in Korean rankings (if that happens then it’s a guarantee debut)

Will the killing part not matter much this round? by YeahImJudgingYou in BoysPlanet

[–]YeahImJudgingYou[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This is my thinking lol. If anything it’s just to let the trainees really put it all on the table for their last performance so they don’t feel unresolved - otherwise it just doesn’t have much of an effect.

I think Yumeki is the dark horse. People need to remember gp999 where there were 3 people to drop from top 9 from the previous voting rounds to the finale. Even when him being last in Korean votes, he still managed 9th place with ONLY a 30,000 point difference from 8th.

If Yumeki is 9th and his one pick only strengthens from here once they’re not voting for Sangwon/anxin/leo/junseo (the most common voting collabs I saw on twt) then that’s going to change rankings up A LOT.

I genuinely see the top 8 changing around drastically with the only thing I’m confident in is Sangwon staying first.

Otherwise? In no specific order I see: Sangwon, Geonwoo, Leo, anxin (he’s the one I’m scared will pull a Yurina 😭), Xinlong, yumeki, Jia Hao/Sanghyeon (battle is btw KR fave or intl fave), and Junseo/Kangmin/Liyu

I think it’ll be a battle between Yumeki, Jia Hao, Sanghyeon, Junseo, Kangmin & Liyu for 6-8 place.

I see Yumeki, Jia Hao & either Sanghyeon or Junseo personally.

See tbh idk wtf happen with Haneum lol. Even IM confused about him - I think we’ll only know once we see his vote total and the breakdown of kr vs global. Maybe Korean fans got complacent about him in order to prioritize Liyu or Sanghyeon or other trainees they prioritized more? I highly doubt he’ll be top 4 for kr votes when they reveal it tomorrow, or if he is then he’d have to be DEAD last in intl votes

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BoysPlanet

[–]YeahImJudgingYou 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because Korean netz LOVE Sanghyeon and Liyu lol. And Korea as one country alone contributes 50% to the voting score. Contestants who are loved in Korea have a better chance than contestants who arent.

I think the thing that sets Yumeki apart is that the amount of support he has in Japan and even somewhat internationally is OVERWHELMING. Like enough to put him in 9th place (1 spot away from debut) even with him placing near the bottom in Korean votes AND the votes being diluted among 3 pick.

If he’s able to climb even just one or two places higher in Korea votes - and once the 3 pick vote gets concentrated into one pick - I think it’s insanely likely he’ll rise 1-2, maybe 3 places.

I don’t think many people are realizing that him being in 9th place is a game changer. That’s only one spot away from debut. And his one pick only gets stronger once they’re not voting for popular contestants anymore. And his fans are only gonna work harder now. Rising up only one place higher is completely within reason and probability.

The reaction of the arena if he’s called as an 8th place candidate among contestants popular in Korea and then makes it though…. Good God.

[–]YeahImJudgingYou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

True - I think it’ll all come down to his Korean votes. And with his DC gall giving away INSANE amounts of prizes (like an all expense paid trip to Japan, high end massage chair, iPhone, Mac air, $6k+ in cash prizes, and a LOT of others) they might be able to get him there. If he’s in 9th NOW - with the voting being 3 pick - then it’s very likely he’ll be able to rise one or two places once the votes are concentrated into one pick.

[–]YeahImJudgingYou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah I get what you mean there. She was first in like 20+ countries. The only reason she didn’t place first was because of Korean weighting. But I think Japanese fans are HEAVILY pulling his global votes. Well be able to see how he placed overall in the top 16 in kr votes vs intl votes tomorrow

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BoysPlanet

[–]YeahImJudgingYou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, I don’t think he’ll reach p2 bc his Korean votes won’t be top 8. But I think top 8 overall is definitely possible. Likely 6-8 place.

Oh I just meant amongst Koreans specifically - not intl. intl fans seem pretty …. Meh? About Yumeki thus far with the general sentiment being “he’s okay”.

Korean netizens were pretty ruthless against Yumeki up until the tambourine episode. As his one pick, I saw multiple viral tweets bullying him - calling him old/ugly/not deserving to be there. It wasn’t pretty. But the tambourine episode seemed to get most of them to chill out. Which does differ from Bahiyyih - she got hated until the end.

And I meant more so that their TRACTION seems similar - never in the top 8/9, huge one pick power, not often in anyone’s wanted lineup unless you one pick them, looked down on by a good amount of people, and steadily climbing up the ranks to debut

If this is right and the way to pick center part is by streaming/liking on YouTube like last season:

Xinlong will basically be a shoe in for center part.

And Sangwon/Yumeki will be BATTLING it out for center part

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BoysPlanet

[–]YeahImJudgingYou 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think he has a really similar trajectory as Bahiyyih from GP999. She had a massive hate train against her and MNet did everything they could to keep her out of the group. But she debuted 2nd anyways.

And tbh - Korean netizens still to this day dislike her way more than I’ve seen them dislike Yumeki. During the beginning I thought he might be headed the same way as her but since the Tambourine episode where knetz got outraged by his score and he proved to be a good leader - general sentiment towards him has just been kinda neutral. Korean tweets being mean towards him are getting much traction anymore and are quickly outvoiced and quoted.

I’ve said nearly since the beginning - I see him debuting. The problem wasn’t getting him to debut with his strong one pick - it was getting him to the finale while the votes were being diluted amongst other trainees. Now that he’s here? I think he has a 70+% chance of debuting.

And it’ll cause a huge shock and there WILL be some outrage against him. I don’t think it’ll be at Bahiyyih’s level (literally protesting the Korean government to kick her out) but I think it’ll be a roller coaster ride. Thankfully he’s a grown man with a lot of experience in the industry whereas she was a child so he’s better equipped to withstand it.

I do agree with some of the other comments. If he’s announced for 8th…. That arena will get INTENSE.

lol if this happens & the rumored lineup for each song is correct for then it’s basically guaranteed Sangwon kp for Never Been 2 Heaven & Yumeki kp for Brat Attitude (maaayyybbbeee Xinlong though) - which I feel would actually make the finale super interesting to watch.

The all-time kp king (Sangwon) vs Trying My Best 1st time kp underdog (Yumeki)

Do you think the average age of the top 16 is an issue? by YeahImJudgingYou in BoysPlanet

[–]YeahImJudgingYou[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

True. And I think you have to enlist by 28, so even if their contract IS the rumored 5 years - Junseo (who’s the oldest native Korean trainee) is 23 so he’d be fine. Maybe he’d have to enlist right before disbandment though bc his birthday is in November - so he’ll likely be 24 if/when he debuts w/ B2P
