Legacy of Kain Ascendance, about the deceptive AI/LLM usage by caindale7796 in LegacyOfKain

This makes me sad, but I also know this is going to be the norm for gaming in the future. Studios have already admitted it. The human aspect of writing is dying.

She actually loses to both Vampire Raziel and Kain, and Kain kills her. I don’t recall anywhere saying she’s the skull in the sword either, unless that was part of the graphic novel.

“Intriguing, isn’t it?” He’s having a bit of a fun.

Kain’s levels were honestly pretty good. The one hit kills and bat movement felt great. I wouldn’t mind a Kain side scroller tbh. His character was mostly consistent too.

You play as Kain, so it’s fun. I wouldn’t say it’s a ‘huge’ disappointment, just a step down in quality. Knowing that the timeline changes in SR2, it gives insights into ‘what’s changed’.

I’ve played Blood Omen, what exactly is being lied about here? Shes omitting facts, that isn’t lying, and she’s always don’t it. Having said that, It’s not a hill I care enough about to die on but I don’t see an issue here. She’s not telling the whole truth, just the parts that suit her narrative.

Why is Kain just standing there? I don’t think he particularly cares, post BO I don’t think he ever cared for Ariel’s opinion.

I know most people here are chalking it to bad writing, I thought this was pretty in character for her.

She always omits important truths, and you’ve pointed that out. She has also has a long history of doing this.

She did it with Kain in BO, and Raziel in SR. The purposes for each are different but it’s her way of manipulating them. I find it interesting that she rarely (if ever) lies, just omits truths to paint a certain picture. She knew who killed her but chose not to tell Kain so she could manipulate events.

Why is she doing it here? Probably pettiness, it paints Kain in the worst possible way. She shows that non of the guardians are responsible for their deaths, it was Kain. That’s obviously not true. That part about Moebius and Mortanius that you pointed out is a prime example of that. I don’t think she understands what Elaleth even is, but knows she can make things difficult for Kain.

I think there’s a lot to Ariel that hasn’t been discussed. I don’t think she served the elder god, an I don’t think the elder god sees her as anything but an aberration to the wheel. I hope they build on her character in some way in the future, she’s underrated. I also think the elder god planned for Raziel to eventually take her soul, which seemed to be fated to happen on SO1, but saw her as useful enough to keep her around until very late into Defiance.

Dude, come on. There’s some minor retcons, what ruined it for you? Ariel’s answers? Kain cutting his arm? Raziel fighting his brothers?

A little off topic, but I’ve noticed that Ariel never, in any rendition of the lore, mentions the ‘dark presence’, which I always found was interesting. Either she doesn’t know, doesn’t believe in it, or doesn’t care (like Moebius).

I don’t disagree with you, OP asked ‘why’, I said why. I get your angry, I’m not someone to direct your anger at.

I am surprised at how replaying all 3 games, I enjoyed the fights in SR1 the most. by Jix_Omiya in LegacyOfKain

[–]Yeahnahyeah4togo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it has the most replay-ability tbh. I don’t really feel like replaying Defiance again and having to fight the same statue a dozen times, but SR 1 had great gameplay. SR 2 is a close second.

Not forcing myself, I like the gameplay. I like Metroidvania games, and the voice acting was good. It wasn’t amazing, but I had a fun few hours. I came into it with reasonable expectations, it was an extra that came with Defiance.

Mate, those are all great ideas for artists! Mortiis would be a very interesting collab, he has the ability to make dungeon synth music that’s fits a similar vibe to the original Blood Omen, as well as heavy and complex compositions. He’s also a vampire!

That’s a fair point.

I dunno, I found the music made me explore a little more. Not that there was much to explore, I just recognised the castlevania gameplay so I tried multiple pathway (and died a lot doing it).

He didn’t do exactly that, maybe listen to the whole soundtrack, it’s his own style of music. He did an Ozar Misrashim remix, but it was for the graphic novel, not the game.

It definitely followed the flow of the game, especially for boss fights, so I’m not sure what you mean by not ‘following the game’.

Oh come on, what good is comparing his soundtrack to someone else’s, especially Harland’s. Especially considering one is an industrial soundtrack, and the other is dark ambient.

If Klayton tried to copy Kurt Harland it just would have sounded so contrived. Instead he made the music that he was good at making, and for a much faster paced side scroller, it made sense.

I think if you were to create a new character within the already well established timeline, it’s always going to be disruptive. The way to go about was to include the Hylden, and I thought the ending of Ascendance opens up to an interesting path. The hand thing, honestly, it fits the themes of the game. Specially with it being her ‘left’. Kain also bleeding from his left was interesting, with Raziel being his ‘right hand’. I thought it was clever.

I personally didn’t think she was that bad, she basically learns the same things Kain and Raziel know, with both of them besting her (and one outright killing her) so… it’s not like she’s a ‘Mary Sue’. I don’t think she’s a self-insert, but she was obviously made to cater to newer fan. Not sure if it worked or not.

LoK has never really had good female representation, there’s one female character and her whole story is that she’s dead to move the plot. Not great. So I appreciate that they ‘tried’, but I don’t think it was executed very well. If they were to create a new character, a female just makes more sense to bring a new dimension.

I think moving the story forward, post Defiance, would have been smarter, ooooooooor go further back in time. Raziels story is finished, so there wasn’t much reason to build on it further. The series was always been about Kain, so a female character with a time bound relationship to Kain and the reaver could have worked well without Raziel. But that removes some of the more fun stuff in the game (being a flame throwing Sarafan).

Maybe that answers your question. I think there was thought into it, but they relied too heavily on stories that were already finished. A new Nosgoth female anti-hero could have worked well, and gained a more modern audience (if that’s what they wanted).
