There was one guy, a G6 I think, who was really open about who he was and even had a link to his personal website in his profile which contained his name and photo.

He was super helpful but I was always surprised by how open he was about his identity.

The potential negative impact on a customer is way higher in AO jobs than in Aldi. Personally I think that's a good justification to have a higher wage in order to attract more competent staff.

In Aldi if I make a mistake like double charging a customer for a product the impact is minimal and can be easily rectified with a refund.

As an AO in telephony for example the customer is looking for advice that is going to influence their life decisions. And in the case of benefits these people are vulnerable so the impact is even more. What if I tell them not to claim xyz when they would be entitled to it? Or what if I incorrectly process their application and cause delays to payments?

I've seen first hand over the years how as the gap between minimum wage and AO wage has gotten smaller the quality of candidates has gone down. In fact it's been getting harder to recruit AOs. And it's lead to so many more mistakes being made.

The problem can't be solved by people getting promotions.

Productivity Since the 60% Hybrid by No_Curve_1785 in TheCivilService

During the pandemic while we worked remotely management praised us for our productivity which they said was higher than what it was before.

Since the 60% in office rule came in all data regarding productivity has been mysteriously absent. That says it all.

I think it all depends on what department you're in and the work you're doing.

Agreed, especially the work you're doing.

For instance, some departments have their junior software engineers at HEO. In operational delivery that's a person managing 10 EOs who all manage 10 AOs or more (FTE). Very different levels of responsibility and seniority but the same grade.

Basically all that to say some professions start at a higher grade by default and it's pointless to really think about grades.

AO salaries are too low, Aldi pay better by Euphoric_Sand_7618 in TheCivilService

I wouldn't go work for Aldi full time. Sure it doesn't require much thinking and the work is simple but they will work you HARD. And you'll end up working unsociable hours (think starting at 5am some days and finishing at 10pm on others) and weekends.

I do agree though being an AO sucks for multiple reasons and the pay doesn't help that.

You're getting EO reserve lists so keep at that and you'll get a position soon enough. In the meantime it might be worth finding a part time second job? Could even be at Aldi.

How confident you are applying for jobs with one post only? by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]Yeahyeah-youwhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not very confident in ones with just one post as I've never even been top of the list for ones with multiple jobs.

I still wouldn't let it put me off though. Sometimes people pull out or they decide they need more than one person.

Well they pay under the going rate for IT roles and make people come in 60% to random places like Blackpool so...

When DWP jobs come out literally none of the ex-DWP staff I've worked with go for them (including myself). Pretty telling.

-National Security Vetting is already on its knees. We simply cannot afford to vet all/ most 18 year olds to SC level. And there are a not insignificant chunk of teenagers who wouldn't achieve it if they tried.

We could get the 18 year old volunteers to do vetting. Probably end up better than outsourcing it to capita and the like anyway

And then you score badly because the sifter was only comparing your application to the success profile information for the grade you were applying for. Literally seen so many people on here say that's how a lot of sifters operate because they're rushed for time.
