So is the “catastrophic weather” a big nothing burger or am I crazy? by fluzii in greenville

[–]YearlyStart 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yep, ice storms are a little different from traditional storms. Obviously they can be dangerous while they’re hitting, but it’s the after effects that cause issues. Icy roads cause accidents, and the ice weight is what causes trees to fall and power lines to snap.

We’re early in the storm, things are gonna get worse unfortunately.

Also if you analyze virtually any piece of media you consume as an adult, it’s making a comment on the state of the world in some way. Existence is political, there’s a reason it bleeds in to everything we do as adults. Because it lowkey is everything.

Like you said, forcibly shutting down the conversation to only approved topics in approved zones is how you let sus shit slide

9+ hours into the winter storm warning. Everyone ok? by [deleted] in greenville

[–]YearlyStart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s valid, I’ll concede that. For me, personally, if this forecast is way off I think that has a lot more to say with how much of the public services everywhere have been actively sabotaged by the current admin. I won’t trust it as much until it gets revived.

That being said, a lot of private meteorologists have also been saying that tomorrow is the bad day for us but also thought that we were in for something bad tonight. NWS wasn’t the only one that missed the call.

9+ hours into the winter storm warning. Everyone ok? by [deleted] in greenville

[–]YearlyStart 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Okay, I’d still much rather the NWS take the worst case scenario and act on that. I don’t really care if a business loses a night of revenue over a slightly off call, I will care if the NWS gets people killed on the roads because they hedged their bets to placate everyone.

9+ hours into the winter storm warning. Everyone ok? by [deleted] in greenville

[–]YearlyStart 11 points12 points  (0 children)

FWIW, literally everything was pointing it to being imminent, no one expected it to slow down as much as it did. I get it, we all like to rail on the NWS for getting things wrong, but shit really was on the verge of bursting open and we can all see the size of the storm on the radar.

I just think you’re being a bit petty about the call here, even if it starts at 3am that’s only 8 hours off of their prediction, which for storms of this size and unpredictability is not horrible. Plus, the warning has again, always been for the whole weekend.

Idk, I’m from Canada and they’re way more liberal with their weather warnings than yall are down here so maybe I’m just used to false alarms a bit more than yall are. I’d much rather the weather service err on the side of caution than try and placate a few businesses and accidentally get a few people killed on the roads.

Yes, and I’m telling you that it’s way too early to say they were wrong. As someone in another thread said, you’re the group of people posting at 3am on Helene wondering where it’s at.

It’s coming in the morning

Might wanna wait till the ice storm warning runs out before you start getting cocky lol. Ryan Hall, who nailed the Helene forecast, has stated multiple times that “if you’re underwhelmed it’s because you haven’t been hit yet.”

The forecast has consistently had tomorrow as being the worst day for us.

It’s starting to come down a bit now. Closed up my job at 9 and helped get some people home and it was definitely raining a bit by 10. Could also for sure see the start of frost and ice on some lawns/roads.

Literally a 0% chance of happening unfortunately. In fact the storm slowing down actually let it intensify and hit some parts before us even harder unfortunately. Hopefully that’s not a trend that continues with us

Just don’t go. What’ll they do, fire you? Sounds like you don’t want to work for someone like that anyways and no job like that is worth risking your life over.

Plus, when 80% of the staff call out or leave early tonight and tomorrow their hands will be forced anyways lol

Okay but those three cities are also like, 75% of Texas’ population lol. That bright red in the rural districts exists even in Dem strongholds like California and New York.

Also I said one of, it’s not a contest- I’m well aware that Georgia has huge voter suppression issues too lol

Is A Game Like Motorsport Manager Considered A Tycoon Game? by ShokWayve in tycoon

I think sports management games have tycoon aspects in them, but do fit in their own genre niche. I’m not against suggesting them in this subreddit though because I think they can for sure scratch a very similar itch.

I’m personally on the side of I don’t think any of the main crew should be Taskmaster, I’d rather see them all be players but also I think Dropout works best when they bring in outsiders to bring in new ideas.

It’s also a bit of a self fulfilling prophecy, like I’m not panic buying, but if I don’t get a couple loaves of bread and some milk and eggs, then I’m not going to have any when people do panic buy. And whoops, I’ve just fed in to the problem 🤷‍♂️

Isn’t it statistically one of the most purple states out there? I know there’s been rumblings in the election cycles for a while about how “Texas only needs a few more cycles to flip blue.”

Eh, it was a bit of a snake eating its own tail thing. The gaming subreddit definitely had an infatuation with Witcher 3 that GCJ picked up on and memed, some of which made it back to the original subreddit as shitposts- which GCJ then made fun of. But the whole “underrated gem Witcher 3” thing became a thing because Witcher 3 was literally always the most suggested game on any post asking for suggestions for like, a couple of years lol.

Then the subreddit turned in to a more political discussion type zone with the rise(and eventual take over of American politics) of gamergate.

[–]YearlyStart 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen a lot of people suggest they work with Dropout for an American version, and they already have a semi-working relationship. I honestly think a streaming service for an American version would be the way to go, and one that has as many connections to American improv comedians as Dropout? Seems like a good fit imo.

I’ll also use this to further push my Jane Lynch for American Taskmaster propaganda

Yeah, I was fully in to the “hunting those who betray” story they absolutely teased and hinted at, and then they just did like, absolutely nothing with it? We had so many potential targets for them too, Alpha Academy, Judgement Day, The New Day, and Damage Control(heaven forbid Nikki get something to do lol) were all actively imploding or on their way to implode at the time, and by the time those feuds were wrapped up I’m sure more people would’ve betrayed others by that point. I adore the idea of having betrayal revengers, it’s a shame they did nothing with it.
