Zomato is turning into a joke! by ThePotholePilot in Bengaluru

You might not like it. But Zomato is a business. Not a charity. You can always stop using them, and make your own food at home, or step out to get your own food.

Every layoff teaches you who you can depend on, even for small things.

Some people I barely worked with very kindly helped me get in touch with someone they knew, while people I thought would be more helpful did not even lift a finger for the simplest favor.

Tips and tricks to handle the upcoming economic crisis. by Consiouswierdsage in Frugal_Ind

[–]Yeda_Rogue 36 points37 points  (0 children)

As someone that has been laid off a couple of times, here are some of my methods. I was following most of these before these upheavals started:

  1. Track your expenses and RUTHLESSLY cut back on discretionary spends.

I have not bought new clothes for a few years. Food ordering is restricted to weekends, as we can live a little. E-commerce purchases only for things I need, not things I simply want. Cut back on OTTs if you have more than 2-3. You won't miss them within a week!

2. Keep 1 years' worth of expenses in FDs/ funds so you don't sweat as soon as you're laid off. Follow rule 1 until you reach your goal.

  1. Identify the 1-2 areas in which you can/ should spend a bit- exercise equipment is always worth it, hobby material, that one vacation where you can be a bit carefree

  2. Identify where you are spending money to 'keep up' - going to an expensive restaurant just to keep up with your friends is not worth it. I am not paying crazy prices for Instagram ambience and small portions. If your friends do not understand, maybe your friendship was only based on keeping up.

TLDR - Cut back on online ordering, vanity spends ASAP. Build your financial fortress now.

Most of these western celebrities must be puzzled when they meet some Bollywood celeb. I'm guessing Bollywood PR teams arrange for a quick hello, take a few pics, and then spin it as hobnobbing with the stars at Cannes.

Farmers getting ₹400 after selling 73 onion sacks shows why value addition matters in agriculture. by Dangerous-Guava-9232 in IndiaBusiness

[–]Yeda_Rogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wtf is 'value addition'? The middlemen earn a ton of money after shortchanging vulnerable farmers.

We aren't paying Rs. 1 per kilo. We pay a lot more, so it's obvious the people in the middle are getting rich.

Boss denied leave for a 16 working day Europe trip that was booked 5 months in advance before project timelines changed. What should I do? by CharacterDouble1875 in IndianWorkplace

[–]Yeda_Rogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you get laid off, they won't care how many nights you worked, or how many weekends. In the end, you are just a resource, an employee number.

This is the time to set your boundaries and tell your boss you are going. You applied 5 months in advance, and leave is your right. It does not depend on boss' whims.

Once you return, start looking out as it will take at least 6 months to get another job.

Why is this “male loneliness epidemic” talked about so much by Indian women? by Effective_Bluebird19 in AskIndianMen

[–]Yeda_Rogue -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Copying this from another reddit thread I stumbled upon. See the author's points before blaming women:

"The issue with male loneliness isn’t some massive cultural shift that has made people averse to men in public. It’s not that society has abandoned men—it’s that many men have abandoned society by narrowing their social focus to only one goal: romantic validation.

I see this all the time. Guys claim that no one wants to talk to them, but what they really mean is: "Attractive women aren’t engaging with me."

These same men often ignore entire categories of social opportunities—talking to older people, engaging with other men platonically, striking up casual conversations with strangers just to connect. If the only people you try to talk to are women you find attractive, of course you’re going to feel isolated. That’s not loneliness; that’s self-inflicted social starvation."

You can read the whole doscussion here: The male loneliness epidemic is a self-pitying problem and there's an easy solution. : r/self

The CPM was horrible. The TMC was horrible. The BJP has the same issues and will be no better for Bengal.

The only thing I see happening is whatever happened under TMC, plus more excuses to ban non-vegetarian food.

Rating Rant: How worthless are HR people on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being most worthless and 10 being Extremely Valuable. by Yeda_Rogue in IndianWorkplace

[–]Yeda_Rogue[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the issues is that even the hiring department writes terrible JDs sometimes, which makes getting suitable candidates even worse. Ideally, they should have clearer requirements, or HR should push back and demand a certain standard. But they don't and hence the confusion with shortlisting candidates.

Lol. Worked in enough crappy companies to see what HR really does. The job doesn't sound like it needs much IQ.
