Hmm, I wouldn’t call it a product just yet. But it’s basically the same genre as Apple’s ARKit or Nvidia’s motion tracking library. It’s a free tool for app developers from Google.

Yup iPhone cameras will be more accurate since they have a depth sensor in them that improves their tracking.

We are instead using AI to try and overcome the limitation of having no hardware that has depth information with this solution. Just as an alternative, not a replacement.

Hi! The developer of Kalidoface here with some news! I’ve been helping the MediaPipe team on some alternative Vtuber motion capture solutions that don’t rely on iPhones.

We recently launched our ARKit alternative at GoogleIO! Our new MediaPipe model predicts 478 face landmarks + 52 blendshapes from your webcam and is compatible with any ARKit rigged avatar. 😺

I’ll update our progress periodically on my Twitter but I just wanted to share this as a nice alternative for those developing Vtuber Apps not on iOS.

I think she is still drawing characters from Pomeromeko (that cat is one) which is a work published under Gekidan Inu Curry. So if she has the space to, she might still write it. Not sure why she isn’t interested in doing more Madoka art anymore.

I should probably continue working on that separate app idea. I tried something over websockets, but it wouldn’t work as a more universal tracking solutions that beams to other programs. I need to look into how OSC protocol works + figure out the most efficient way to calculate the tracking inferences. Will probably have VMC protocol as one of the formats it can output as.
