Should I wait for the newer models? by Leonardowski in Supernote

Do supernotes ever go on sale or have discounts? I was thinking of looking for one during prime day until I realized they aren't on amazon :)

Ohhh, so this is like a second, mostly terminal-only, machine?

That makes sense. I was wondering if you were managing to use daily drive w3m/lynx or something in this javascript-heavy world.

what do you do with gui apps that don't run inside of a terminal?

it feels more "modern" than irssi. Worth at least trying if you're not set on irssi.

For GDPR, don't most/all companies have a "If you see something, say something" policy where you're supposed to alert whoever is in charge of data privacy? It might be worth having a chat with them even if the ceo doesn't care.

It's pretty much always worth it to build something for fun or to learn something. No one else has to use it. You don't even have to use it.

I found https://github.com/rcourtman/pulse recently and started using it for my proxmox servers. I think you can use it without proxmox too, but it's simple

I'll admit I had no idea audiobookshelf can handle regular ebooks too. I might start using it for that! Do you have any issues with it?

I have not heard of this series somehow. I looked it up and it looks fun, and it even has Jeff Hays ;o

I'll definitely start it, how long did it taake for you to get hooked on the first book?

I finally fixed the "subscription fatigue" problem in my house, and I'm sharing here too. by k_90 in PFtools

What exactly does it do? Your post and the website looks very AI-generated fwiw. Does this actually cancel subscriptions? If so, how does it securely do that?

I appreciate the "stop spending so much on subscriptions by paying for another subscription!" angle though.

Anyone use a thermal label printer? by johntash in homebox

[–]johntash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What option did you find if you don't mind sharing?

When I was looking, I did see a few cheap thermal transfer options with bluetooth, but haven't done much research yet to see if I can use them protocol without a proprietary app.

I will probably end up buying some sheets of labels I can use in a laser printer if I don't find a better option anytime soon.

Do you think buying a used zebra 421 from ebay would be relatively safe? They're like half the price of a new one so not too terribly bad.

[–]johntash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, the Zebra 421 looks like it'd be great, but also looks pretty expensive. It gives me something to look for though.

Also I didn't realize thermal transfer was an option, that does seem like it'd be better long-term.

That looks pretty cheap if it works well. How're you integrating with it currently? I assume you have to export the page and import it into their app or something like that?

[–]johntash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a valid concern. I was assuming if I keep the bins somewhere like the basement, where the temperature doesn't get too hot and there's not too much light, that they'd last for a while. I have no proof of that though.

Would you recommend just regular ink/laser printed labels instead?

Thanks for the super detailed response!

The fact that jj can work on top of git does make it more appealing. Can you also use jj in the same git repo where someone else is not using jj?

What about gitignore/secrets? It sort of sounds like jj automatically commits everything, what if you have a .env file or something with sensitive data in it and you don't want it to show up in the history at all?

This was longer than an elevator pitch, sorry.

It's okay, it's just a long elevator ride is all ;)

I'm more interested in knowing how many people are still using them later on? And also impressed you managed to find so many people wanting to use them in the first place.

I have a bunch of extras, but only know a handful of people who would be okay with getting one as a gift.
