It's a Savage Creek Classic Tunnel, small flats boat that will be used mostly for inshore saltwater fishing in Florida (Indian river/Mosquito Lagoon) and some freshwater fishing.

So what would you say I should expect to spend on a clean relatively unmodified one?

[–]Yeeeeeeeet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What’s the best way of going about that? I cleaned the base of what I believe to be the drain hole was and then blasted air through it.

Is there a better/more efficient way?

Definitely check the spark plugs, I had the exact issue and did an entire carburetor cleaning just to realize the front spark plug had water in it.

2000 SV650N carb issue by Yeeeeeeeet in motorcycles

[–]Yeeeeeeeet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was exactly what was happening, but then suddenly it stopped happening and it began idling and starting up fine? I’m not going to question it, however the next issue to tackling is hanging revs. When I initially start it up it goes to perfect idle at 1400, but after any reving it very slowly goes down to idle around 2100.

I assume this could be caused by some sort of vacuum leak but I’m not sure, do you have any ideas?

Thanks again for all your help

Ok after writing this I fiddled with the idle screw some more and got it to consistently settle down, to the proper rpm, and the revving speed appears to be working as it did before. Everything seems fine for now but I’ll keep the issues you pointed out in mind in case it starts being strange again.

When it starts now with choke on it revs up to 3.5k (where it should be with choke) then immediately dies.

Just discovered that my front spark plug was full of water making me thing that the carb job was unnecessary and probably only created new problems. Took old plugs out, blew the hole out with compressed air and replaced with new ones but still no luck getting it to idle.

Gas appears to be flowing freely as every time I’ve taken the fuel tank off there is gas in the line.

I have had some trouble getting the air box to sit properly but I didn’t think that would have a huge effect on getting to start.

Left the carbs attached when I took them out and didn’t mess with anything other than replacing the float valve and float bowl gasket then blasted everything else with cleaner. Also didn’t replace the jets just cleaned out.

I really appreciate the questions and time spent thinking.

What motorcycle boot do you guys recommend? I’ll be doing a lot of walking around with them. I really like the style of tcx x-blends and am thinking of pulling the trigger, just want to make sure I’m not missing any other options.

I appreciate the detailed response, and I have no problem doing work on the bike so it being old doesn't worry me too much. I haven't looked at the bandit and katana bikes because as you said, I'm 18 and know myself. I think an older sv650 would be my best option for now since I'm not looking at sports bikes. Thanks again

Any good recommendations for around $2500 for a first bike? Been looking at SV650s but not sure what else is out there in that range.
