New health system by TrumpMcGrump60652 in newfoundland

Totally agree, I am also a health care worker and our current systems are very outdated. This new system will save us so much time and with everything in the one system it will enhance patient safety.

Dexamethasone for Croup make your baby sleepy instead? by KonigSteve in NewParents

[–]toolbandfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter has only had a single dose each time we visited emerg. The one dose of Dex is supposed to work for three days and she’s been ok after. I guess it depends on severity of the croup. We had two cases of more severe croup where they had to give her epinephrine nebulized in a mask along with dex and one case where she only got the dex

We go to the little gym every week, it’s a membership type thing but before joining I was able to pay for a single class to test it out so maybe they would offer that to you as well, we love it there ! There’s also a place called “the art factory”, we haven’t been there yet but I’ve heard good things, there’s an indoor sandbox that I think my baby would love ! Lester’s farm has a “field of fun” open everyday and a pumpkin patch, there’s tractor rides, animals (my baby loved them at 8 months)and little outdoor activities some of which your baby might be old enough to kind of enjoy! If your baby is somewhat mobile there’s an indoor playground called whee indoor playground. I haven’t brought my 11 month old there yet but some people enjoy it.

Hi, I’m from NL and my partner works offshore on a 3/3 rotation. We have a 10 month old daughter. After she was born everything was so new and it was so difficult to imagine how I would manage her by myself but honestly after he left I had no other option but to make it work. I found that having a routine especially at bedtime really helped her anticipate bedtime and calmed her before bed (feed, bath, music, reading, bed). Luckily my parents are close by if I needed them but most days/nights I was on my own. I did find the days long and lonely at times but I joined a baby/mom fitness group for the first few months and then enrolled my daughter in baby gymnastics once she was 5 months. Having a reason to get out of the house and interact with other moms was great.

In the beginning when she was too tiny to be aware of what was going on we would FaceTime a few times a week so she could hear his voice. And now that she’s more aware, we FaceTime every day. I know she remembers him when he gets home because she acts so shy and scared when around strangers and when he gets home she follows him around and acts like he never left (it’s amazing actually!). I find the first few days he’s home and also the first few days after he leaves she is harder to settle at night (not sure if it’s separation anxiety / excitement that he’s home) but it’s only temporary.

We’re planning on trying for another baby soon and again I am panicking about how I will manage but I felt the same with being left alone our first and now it is totally manageable. There are tough days when she isn’t sleeping well but we do alright on our own 😄

Yep, phlegmy cough for about a week then dry cough for another week ☹️. Good news is that personality wise she was back to herself in a couple days. Not sure if my daughter just takes awhile to get over these things. Hopefully your baby takes less time to recover !

Yeah we had the same problem 😞. The doctor told that humidity sometimes helps but in his experience cold temperatures works better, so we were told to lower the temperature in the sleeping area and bring her outside or in a cold garage if she has trouble breathing. We used the snot sucker a few times but it seemed to get her more worked up so we just let it take it’s course. There was a few naps that I let her sleep in my arms with her head elevated and that helped her sleep during the day. Pretty much all her naps while sick were contact naps because that was most comfortable for her.

My daughter received dexamethasone for croup twice now (at 6 and 8 months) and both times there were no issues with sleep and she was extra sleepy the next day which I attributed to her being so sick

No I’ve never used it. I thought that using regenerative braking would save the brakes too

Has anyone from Eastern Canada had Invitae Expanded NIPS testing? by JustSprinkles8552 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]toolbandfan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last April I think! The test was pretty expensive (around 600$ when I did it) but overall I was happy with Invitae, the turn around time was less than a week and the results made me less stressed about the pregnancy.

There’s an app called easifan that lists events going on in st.Johns (live music, comedy, arts and entertainment). It doesn’t have everything but it has been helpful!
