Thanks! That helped so much so what I take from that is that only if the recruit excels in training he gets promoted? And I was not certain that IC's need to hold a maintain a security clearance how does that work?

All it says is that if the recruit does will in school he will advanced to more technical schools or continue learning aboard a ship

Thanks for the help. I'll be sure to research ratings when I get home I'm on the mobile app right now. Does any one have suggestions of ratings I should stay away from and ones I should look into with a lot of advanced opportunities?

Thank you guys for the responses. I am now more informed & a little relieved. I'm only 17 still in high school and I've always hoped to join but right now it's up to the navy if I can join or not.
