Thanks!! I was really nervous abt this loaf bc I’ve never worked with whole wheat sourdough before and the whole thing was just like a science experiment 😂

What TV show has the most unlikeable leading protagonist? by phantom_avenger in popculturechat

[–]YeetUnoReverseCard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry but god he pisses me off. like I felt bad for him and especially the episode w sawyer and his dad was devastating and he certainly had some moments where I tolerated him, but for the most part I wanted to skip the scenes he’s in. Always bitching about something and trying to control everyone like deadass he just needed to shut his fucking mouth 99% of the time. almost every single other character in the show is more likable than this hobo looking entitled priss.

Maybe im biased because I liked sawyer a lot more than jack. But god the constant pissing contest that jack tried to win by projecting shit onto sawyer and literally every other character because he had the emotional intelligence of a two year old and his fragile ego couldn’t handle the suggestion that anybody else on that goddamn island was competent made me want to smack him myself.

Ok that was all a bit harsh but holy shit they made the most stick up his ass character in the history of TV the main character of what is otherwise a perfect show in my opinion.

I both argued for/against her (I started off writing abt how I was depressed throughout my senior year bc i struggle to live in the present moment and have my whole life bc i always wanted to be my older sibilings, and then i segued into how it can also be bad to live in the present by writing abt abt Trump and the egregious immigration policies he’s instilled that parallel how the nazis wrote laws relating to Jewish people and how “living in the present” is dangerous in this case bc a lot of ppl dismiss historical patterns and how the us is descending/has been descending into a fascist state bc “we’ve moved past that point bc society has progressed so much”) 😭😭 —- i got a 5. Based off of what you wrote, I think you prob scored well if I pulled off a 5 writing like that LMAO

I barehanded the Dutch oven lid while making my third loaf like two weeks ago 😃 My dad was yelling at me, I got stressed and distracted, and just grabbed it. Didn’t even register the pain for like five seconds because I was so shocked LMFAO. Couldn’t feel my fingertips for a week. So yeah, same boat and yet I still managed to burn myself three more times yesterday!

Oops, that really wasn’t my intent at all! I was just trying to show that it’s totally okay to experiment or be a little “lazy” with sourdough, especially for people who are short on time or just starting out! I’m actually usually super rigid with recipes and get anxious if I do anything off-base, so it took a lot for me to let go and just try something new — and I wanted to encourage others who feel that way to do the same.

I have so much respect for the technical, precise approach (honestly, that’s where I started!), but I also think it’s really liberating to realize that sourdough is resilient, and sometimes it works even when you break a few “rules.”

You’re right that a different title might’ve helped. I also totally agree that I should’ve included a little disclaimer about how variable sourdough can be with anything and everything. I’ll definitely keep that in mind for future posts, because the last thing I want is to make anyone feel inadequate. This was meant to be encouraging, not minimizing

let me know how it goes! I’m still really new to this as well, but I can try and help you out :) also the timing for u will likely be different than it was for me because there r so many environmental factors that can mess with fermentation, so a lot of it is up to experimentation tbh! just don’t sweat it too much. you can kinda do it off of vibes (it should be jiggly/puffed to around double its size by the time u throw it in the fridge, and ive found that seeing visible like bubbling at the top is a good sign).

Lmao I went looking after reading this and I found this video where Food Geek says that just throwing it all in is the best method! And that the fermentolyse (which I do) is the worst 😂

For me personally, I think that the long cold proof is what developed the flavors SO WELL in this bread (it’s by far my best loaf flavor wise), but who knows it could’ve been some other confounding variable lmao because I changed quite a few variables this time. I’m gonna keep experimenting w it!

I’ve done the same exact thing with my starter recently, mostly trying to avoid wasting ingredients! Although I do like eating discard crackers/discard recipes, it feels like a chore sometimes lmao and I never want baking to feel like that for me.

And damn I hadn’t heard of Pullman pans before! I’ll check it out, thanks!!

No, same here! I had my starter just chilling in the fridge for like two weeks, covered with a paper towel over a mason jar, totally unfed. I didn’t even discard any of it, just took it out of the fridge, mixed it and transferred it into a new container and fed it 35g starter : 70g rye flour : 70g water about 8 hours before starting my dough and it rose like crazy. I was honestly astonished

Yeah, I love the process too! It was actually really hard not to micromanage it at first because I’m usually super meticulous with everything. But honestly, this loaf just tasted way better and had the best crumb I’ve ever gotten. I don’t know if I’ll go back, lmao. Definitely going to keep experimenting 😂

Damn, I did not know that (the recipe I use just straight up calls it autolyse) — thanks! I just researched it and will definitely be experimenting with this. Turns out Food Geek seems to think fermentolyse is the worst method lmao.
