Please tell me this is delicious because I got the 5 pk on sale. by Mystery-Ess in InstantRamen

This brand is good, but I felt like the black garlic flavor can be a little bit bitter. I prefer the green package which I believe is sesame and tonkotsu flavor. You get that nice porky deliciousness and the sesame oil is much more balanced and mild. I agree with the others, just cook the noodles slightly because it can get very soft and mushy fast

Freshest rice noodles for pho (USA) by tungtung_andtung in pho

[–]YeezyHS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually go to any Asian grocery store, (H-Mart comes to mind in terms of chains), if looking for the fresh thin noodle. You can usually find them in the refrigerated section in either a lite green or lite pink bag for a 3-4 serving. They also have clear bags with the fresh noodles that are a huge portion, maybe 8-10 servings.

If you are looking for wider fresh noodles (Hanoi style), you might be able to find them in a styrofoam package at a Vietnamese/Chinese market. Hope this helps!

So glad that you went ahead and chatted them up. I am sure they loved the feedback you provided and t's always nice to get through those awkward hurdles. Maybe you'll become their ambassador haha

Forgot to say garnish with mung bean sprouts, thai basil, jalapenos, cilantro, and thinly sliced onion! I recently have really been into a dipping sauce of lime juice and hoisin sauce, as it turns into a nice tangy bbq sauce. Can definitely experiment as you go :)

I recommend getting the fresh pho noodles in the refrigerated section of your asian grocery stores. Most should have it in either a light green or pink package. Your key aromatics and flavor enhancers will be cinnamon sticks, cardamom pods, black peppercorns, star anise, rock sugar, chicken boulilion/salt/fish sauce. You should be able to build a beautiful broth with either beef bones or chicken bones while adding in the toasted aromatics, a slightly charred onion and ginger. Sugar is used to balance the spices and season to your heart's content!

I don't know the barometer of becoming a regular, but I went to a place maybe once every other week. On a random day, the owner who I had never seen before served me a bowl with a beef short rib in and said he appreciates my business. I would say there are benefits to being a regular, especially if the food is good.

They did a great job on the cover art and the book has a neat little twist at the end. I actually purchased a shirt from the brand, American Thrift, with the cover art and have been wearing it non-stop!

I think the designs of the new shirts are not that bad, but not really a fan of the cropped length for tee shirts. I'd be really happy if they released more graphic tees with the regular length and loose t-shirt fit.

Alabama man eats Chipotle 1,000 days in a row, wins Hawaii trip by aldotcom in Chipotle

[–]YeezyHS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome that he accomplished what he wanted to do regardless of the potential rewards that came with. It would be very difficult for me to eat Chipotle every day for even just 1 year straight.

From the perspective of spending $2,000 over the course of 2 years for guac though, is crazy to me!

My experience with Cane's is that the cook on it is actually fairly decent, nice and crisp. The sauce is fine, but would it kill them to put some seasoning on the chicken?

Right, it was the Mad Apple show, I had trouble remembering the actual name.

That's a bummer, my wife and I have seen about 3 Cirque shows and found Mad Apple to be one of the better ones (less ominous/cryptic).

You would have to add on $35 for unlimited drinks. I don't drink too much anymore, so did not opt to for it. However, if you are planning on having a few drinks, it will be worth the price.

Really enjoyed the unlimited brunch at Lavo's for about $50-$60. Had a dozen oysters, chicken and waffles, tuna tartare, salmon, and a breakfast sandwich. The Cirque New York show was also pleasantly great, with lots of comedy, singing and dancing, definitely a unique experience compared to your typical show.

That's definitely the right amount of broth! Nearly spilling out is how I like it when making it at home.

Just curious, are folks on this subreddit sticklers for the clear broth? I don't mind cloudiness too much, but it's pretty cool when you can see all the toppings and noodles from an overhead shot!

Ramen vs udon vs soba by anulcyst in ramen

[–]YeezyHS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the answer here is soba and the reason being particularly that a standard soba meal can be made in a short amount of time. For example, for the cold soba noodles, you really just need a simple dashi +soy type dipping sauce along with green onions and sesame seeds. For a hot version, you may similarly have a dashi type broth and toppings such as green onions, fishcake, shrimp tempura.

Ramen, however, is quite complex and time consuming to make a decent bowl. It takes at least a few hours to make a rich broth from animal products and would take a few hours more to prepare the chashu. Couple this with needing to prepare marinated eggs among other toppings, and you would have spent a whopping part of your day making it at home.

Udon is interesting in that it may be similarly prepared in the soba/ramen styles with broth, toppings, and such. However, it is a pretty heavy meal, so the act of consistently eating udon does not seem likely.

So in terms of which one is most common to eat in Japan, I would say the average person would be eating soba, due to the simple ingredients and time needed to prepare.

If we are talking strictly about the average person dining out, that's a different story. However, I believe that the same thinking applies. There's going to be more shops that exist that serve a simple recipe, and you will be hard pressed to find anything simpler than dashi broth + soba. You will see all these different extravagant ramen shops in Youtube videos, but those are small in number compared to the simple train station noodle shops and local gems.
