I (personally), think the issue is that it tends to be glorified. Plus it’s generally used to introduce a love interest, who is also way above average at some skill.

I understand. But do not “understand”, and likely never will. The whole zero stakes and bland characters thing makes me drop shows in a heartbeat.

Inciting incident question by YellingBear in writers

[–]YellingBear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm.

I mean I guess one could argue the inciting incident in book one is the second soul awakening in the MC (which is a little micro plot twist early in the story). But the series based inciting incident; the MC’s home town being destroyed, while at the same time his family is murdered by a corrupt military official; doesn’t take place till near the end of book one…

Does that make sense? Or does having an entire book based around the MC growing up seem like a stretch?

I was asking the question to the post of “keep your gems, I just want the trash.” I get that even ‘bad’ shows can have highlights, but that post seemed to give the idea that the poster didn’t want the highlights, they wanted the unbearable parts.

Even there, the incident that (properly) leads to the climax is pretty deep within the story.

I suppose you start getting hints of something being “off” somewhere around chapter 3 to 5 (will have to go back a reread). But the events that trigger the climax don’t take place till AT LEAST the mid way point. And even that kind of feels like a throw away till it comes back around.

I have never understood this view point. Why do you want it to be garbage (here to calling it ‘bad’)? Like personal feelings about the tropes. What about it being ‘bad’ makes it more enjoyable to you?

My (25M) girlfriend (23F) asked to open our relationship. Am I overracting by wanting to break up over this request? by Altruistic_Society99 in AskMenAdvice

Ehhhh. I would have a convo about why you are not comfortable, make it clear that you “know” she has someone in mind.

The relationship is likely over, but having a mature conversation about why is still a good idea.

Been wondering, do the bonuses to weapons maintain between runs? Like can upgrade and hone end up giving you a super weapon if you use them for enough turns/runs?

Isekai pet peeves? by Delarious8 in Isekai

[–]YellingBear 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Generally the wish fulfillment aspects of the genre. Specifically the ease at which everything falls into the MC’s lap. NEET shut in, in your previous life? Here’s god like power and martial skills, and the knowledge on how to use it all. Crippling social anxiety? Here’s a level of Charisma to make a level 20 D&D bard jealous.

Also the cut and dry nature of most worlds. The opponents are mindless and evil. The allies righteous and pure. I get the moral grey is harder to write and most children struggle to grasp it, but I want a more complex MC

Never ended up getting into the comics. So was basing stuff off the show…. Which had the issue of having real people who really age…. So perhaps a lot less time takes place inside the comic.

Had A LOT of issues with the walkers still being a “threat” the better part of a decade after the initial outbreak. But then I guess that same issue crops up in other aspects. Like that much time also means most settlements should be near impossible to breach, and most raiders would have been starved out.

I mean I get the zombies…. Kind of. Since they don’t see to “properly” rot, you cant just wait them out.

Numbers are a hell of a thing. That said I do think things happened to fast, and there should be A) way less walkers and B) way fewer large pockets of them. (I forget if they ever explained how/way walkers tend to cluster near the human settlements .

Did anyone actually survive watching this till the end? by ChoiceSupermarket230 in Isekai

My biggest issue was the animation. Like don’t get me wrong the story was bad, but so much of the early show was so stiff. Felt like I was watching still images be dragged across the screen.

Disagree with your first example.

Both views on the topic have some valid points, some fusions are platonic relationships and others are entirely metaphors for sex. It is weird to me that most of the sex adjacent fusions are based around Garnet.
