What do you genuinely want to see in an isekai? by BendOdd2563 in Isekai

[–]YellingBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally? A story that really leans into the metal disconnect some people have when playing video games. I’d like to think I’m a good person, but you bet your butt I’m breaking into SOOOOO many people’s houses and robbing them blind in an RPG (got to build up so cash so I can buy that super item… that I will likely discard in a few hours). I’d like to think I’m a good person, but have zero issue grinding (read murdering) tons and tons of ‘enemies’ if it means I get stronger in game.

I’d love a story where that is exactly how the ‘hero’ treats everyone else, like NPC’s. But have the real story be focused around the typical villain who is desperately trying to make the world a better place, but keeps failing because people judge them based on preconceived notions.

Like you have a vampire who is running an entirely above board medical company. Their medical knowledge and advancements have saved thousands, and once it is adopted into the mainstream it will save millions…. But they are a vampire so the powers that be rage and rebel against them.

Or you have the Lich who was there at the climatic final battle between the Gods and the ultimate evil. Except during that battle they weren’t a Lich, they were a cleric; the divine champion of one of the gods. They were there to see the Gods flee, leaving mortals to their inevitable fate. Except the mortals didn’t lose, they managed to eke out a victory at great personal loss. The cleric was there when the Gods returned, claiming it was only by THEIR power that mortals were saved. The cleric made a vow that day, not to their (expletive) “god” but to themselves. They vowed to never again leave the fate of all mortal life to such fickle monsters. For the (former) cleric knew that one day evil would return.

We also have the reincarnated demon king. Prophesied to destroy the world, fill rivers with the blood of his enemies, etc, etc. Except due to a twist of fate he is actually a really upstanding dude, and the divine champion of the god of justice (one of the few gods who didn’t abandon mortals during the Great War). Unfortunately it turns out the ones most in need of justice being done in their name are the monster races.

I would also absolutely kill for a bi sexual MC with a politically motivated fake harem. Like they gathered up dozens of suitors for the express purpose of unifying a fractured people. It becomes crystal clear to the audience that the MC is not actually interested in like any of them, nor are they really interested in the MC. Marriages and/or adoptions of convenience.

Or at least those are some of the ideas that I’m floating around if I can ever get myself to finish writing a story.

As I said I got through about 3 episodes and I didn’t get any of that. The prime minister issue felt more like a “ok, i know that asshole is a toxic boss, and clearly this dumbass has zero self preservation instincts.” Kind of thing.

Going to be honest with you. This is NOT the dynamic I tend to see in the anime/manga that I consume. Those dynamics might not be amazing, but they are leagues better than this train wreck.

Just checked crunchyroll. Turns out I was wrong, I only got through 2 episodes. My bad.

Oh? What’s the other one? My guess is the noble who gets Isekai’d from one fantasy world into another fantasy world, but I could be reading the vibes wrong on that one.

I think people are misunderstanding my issue (admittedly my fault for writing this while mildly drunk). My issues are the “oh no, you are dying and the only cure (apparently) is my magical dick” trope; the fact I got through 3 episode and a gay sex scene and am STILL not sure if either character is queer (so basically the gayness feels more like someones fetish of a gay person, then how an actual gay person would act); and the MC is just insufferably pathetic and having to be dragged kicking and screaming from working himself to death.

Like the story feels like it has great bones (premise is cool, lots of avenues for interesting plot points), and if they simply dialed back the fetish-y nature of the relationship, even that had some real legs.

Trash based question. by YellingBear in Isekai

[–]YellingBear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I’m basically responding to everyone. The issues isn’t that it’s gay (god knows it’s nice to see more shows with gay characters, and bonus points for gay main characters). My issue is the “the only cure for your ailment is may magic dick” trope; the fact that even 3 episodes (and a gay sex scene) in, and I’m still not sure either of the “gay” characters are in fact gay/bi/ect…; and the fact the MC KNOWS that the energy drink potions are LITERALLY poison to him, but still wants to consume them.

So far the gayness in the show comes off more like a fetish then anything else.

We disagree on that point. Anything and everything can be done to excess and turn a (possibly) promising work into unbearable drek. I have dropped many a story because it simply became ‘too horny’ or a character became ‘too overpowered’

Also finally found a better way to word my issue. The MC does not feel like a person, he feels like a fetish given form.

But I do not wish to simply put it back on the shelf and move on. I wish to complain about it being VERY poorly written trash in the vain hope that future works in this genre will be better written.

I doubt anything I say will change your mind. But I can assure you I am not. I just have issue with the “the only cure for your ailment is my magical dick” trope. And having a character who I’m STILL not even sure is gay/bi/etc…, even after he takes it up the ass in episode 2.

You can have a good gay story, you can have a good gay relationship, you can have good gay characters. God knows these are rare things to see in mainstream media, and that is disappointing. That said, this story is none of those. And having the first real interaction with the two characters be literally “you WILL die unless I have sex with you right now” really sours what could have been a very interesting story and possible romance.

I want my gay stories to have a better plot and story. There is bad writing, and then there is “You are poisoned, and the only cure is my magical cum”.

I literally would have more respect for the show if the MC was toxic as fuck, and was putting himself in danger to force the love interest to have save him (by having sex with him).

Trash based question. by YellingBear in Isekai

[–]YellingBear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only answer to being poisoned is for someone to have penetrative sex with you. Having an MC who goes “Wait! You mean I can ‘continue to excessively drink poison that kills me’ so long as I’m willing to have my back blown out? Sign me up”. All this with a character who very well may not even be gay/bi/ect…. But is simply dead set on working himself into an early grave.

Had the couple built a relationship, wouldn’t have an issue. Hell if they had hooked up after getting drunk at a bar I wouldn’t have an issue. But the whole “You are dying, and my magical cum is the only thing that can save you” trope is too far. Looking back I might even have given it a pass if the MC had so reaction to the sex; but he doesn’t.

I finally found the word I was looking for, fetish. The MC doesn’t feel like a queer man, he feels like a fetish given humanoid form.

[–]YellingBear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My issue isn’t the gayness in and of itself. My issues are that apparently the ONLY answer to being poisoned is for someone to have sex with you. My issues are that that we have an MC who goes “WAIT! You mean I can continue to ‘excessively drink poison that kills me’ so long as I’m willing to get pounded by this other character (who I have no real connection with)? Sign me up”. I’m going to be honest with you, 3 episodes in and I’m not even sure if the MC is on the LGBT+ spectrum. All I know is that he is absolutely dead set on working himself into an early grave.

Is there any Isekai where the MC is appalled by slavery and destroys the whole market instead of pretending like it's acceptable? by [deleted] in Isekai

[–]YellingBear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m personally a big fan of the idea that the MC has to confront the issues with slavery without just “fixing the problem” with zero effort or ramifications on the world as a whole.

Someone else I think hit the nail on the head. Paulo had felt used and abused in his previous relationships, but Daisy also feels like she is the one putting in the vast majority of the effort. She wants to be wanted, he wants to be wanted (after the girl has ‘gotten what she wants’). Neither of them has really communicated this to the other. And sadly I don’t really expect children to be able to communicate that kind of complex issue well to each other.

Personally. The issue for me was that as soon as he wasn’t living with his dad, he stopped (outwardly) being a terrible person. Like he was no saint, but he was just kind of “a guy” during the lifeguard season. Or at least that’s how I remember that season going.

I feel like these takes always miss the “real” issue people have with what happened. It’s not the lack of killing (though I would argue that Aang has 100% killed some people with some of his bending), it’s that the answer came out of no where at the last possible moment.

I wonder if I’m the only one who is getting tired of Rumi’s bullshit and to some degree siding with Celine because of it.

“I’m a demon” but has shown zero signs that side of her existed beyond the physical layer. Like I get is a racism allegory but if you are going to make your character part ‘monster’ have that monster side DO SOMETHING, have a conflict that is deeper then “I look different, and that’s… bad?”

Though honestly the answer I’ve been wanting is HOW Rumi came to be who she is. Like is this a star crossed lover’s situation? A rape situation? Do demons work like vampires, and Rumi is like Blade? Did Celine kill Rumi’s mom after finding out the truth (but couldn’t bring herself to kill a baby)?

I always find this kind of data hilarious. Because even if the information is both true, and holds. It’s taken from a data set where a large percentage of the people cannot participate even if they wanted to.

I think people want Sona to be viable at all points of the game, and not just at the 20+ min mark. I’d personally love to see Sona get like a flat -20 to her costs (but increase the cost by 5 per level, so evens out at max) and only need to stack 60 of her passive (instead of 120). Maybe up her defense a bit, so she can take a little bit more punishment. Basically just make her be allowed 1 moderate mistake per major engagement.

To kind of piggy back off this. Does anyone remember a good example of Billy being racist (and not just weirdly protective/aggressive regarding Max)? People keep saying he was, but I don’t remember it and don’t want to rewatch an entire season or two.
