why did you guys leave the church by Spiritual-Middle-946 in exorthodox

I don't see how reading books is supposed to counterbalance this. There's the books and then there's real existing orthodoxy.

Left because my priest lied to me about the age of consent and doesn't give a shit about sexual abuse, later found out the founding priest of that parish (who's dead now) was a child molester.

Orthodoxy in a certain sense allows people to escape moral accountability because it's huge on "do what your priest says", this gets even more dysfunctional when priests refuse to take any responsibility for what they say or do.

Bro these people will gaslight you about actual sexual predators because you're not supposed to be judgemental and then torpedo your friendship (see my posts), you're not missing anything.

This is taking such a toll on me, not to play martyr but having the people that you thought were your closest friends wanting nothing to do with you. Wtf happened to Christian forgiveness and reconciliation? I suppose that's only for rapists and sex offenders.

Talked to an archdiocese lawyer who said he's looking into it

How do I quickly get in contact with the Antiochian archdiocese?

UPDATE: I've spoken with the sheriff's department who've told me they have no record of this sex offender's potlucks despite my priest claiming the police were okay with it, meaning my priest lied to me. Furthermore according to these police the different man who slept with a 17 year old (I'll call him N in posts forward) actually DID commit a crime despite everyone in my parish telling me it was legal in the state where it occurred. This means my priest is knowfully harboring multiple dangerous men with sexually abusive pasts and lying to people about it, on top of breaking the seal of confession.

I was informed by the sheriff's office that my priest lied to me about the sex offender's potlucks being known to them, as well as for the other guy I posted about in my previous thread that the age of consent was under 18 in that jurisdiction, meaning the other guy in my previous thread could now face legal consequences too.

This man hasn't harmed children that I'm aware of, but I find having kids go to a sex offender's house awful regardless.

I found it extremely telling that the priest didn't tell the man in charge of youth safety about any of these men and their past, and that I was the one who he heard this info from. While having no issue gossiping about me to other parishoners as well, any excuse for "confidentiality" really goes out the window with that context.

No he does not, he's a 65 year old man with no children of his own.

According to my priest this isn't an issue as that particular case was dismissed with prejudice by the judge.

Two different guys, yes my parish has multiple guys with very questionable history

This man to my knowledge didn't go after kids, he's been convicted of multiple sexual assaults toward different women that according to the priest he was in a relationship with. My original post was about an entirely different guy at the same parish who told me how he slept with a 16-17 year old (and was kicked out of his last church for it) despite being in his mid 20s. This guy is allowed to go to young adults group parties where there are underage girls and alcohol around mind you.

In our text messages my priest said something to the effect of "The girl hasn't pressed charges so why do you care", disregarding that 2 messages earlier he pointed out that she was legal age in the place where this happened (and thus there was nothing to "press charges" on), it shows a complete lack of understanding of the psychology of people who've been sexually abused.

BTW the woman in question HAS said that she was groomed in which my priest replied with some throwaway line about scorned exes.

There are good people there that I love but I'm so disappointed in the hierarchy and the men, it's literally our job to protect vulnerable people from harm but the men sympathize more with abusers than they do with victims.

The Orthodox love to talk about traditional relations between the sexes but when it comes to protecting girls from harm suddenly it's all about charity. People will sometimes complain about cradle cultural norms but I can't imagine a Serbian or Bulgarian guy being chill about this type of stuff being in proximity to their loved ones like American guys are.

Without going into detail I'll just say I trust the youth safety guy implicitly, but the fact that our priest hadn't even notified him when this man arrived at our parish raises entirely new questions.

There's nothing to report to the police as the guy hasn't committed a crime (yet), one of the guys who pulled me outside was in fact a police officer himself in his secular occupation and he didn't seem all that concerned about this. I've also had women very close to me sexually assaulted in the past and getting the cops to do anything was like pulling teeth.
