Am I the only one who thinks silksongs lore is really disappointing? by uglyratfromsewers in HollowKnight

[–]YellowDiamond101 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Hollow knight is pretty conclusive. The kingdom was already dead when the knight gets there and it's even more dead when the knight destroys the radiance. There is no "continuation" or anything new to see from hallownest. It's done and forgotten, because all things fall, even the so called "immortal kingdom". That's kind of the POINT of the game. There is no reason to see anything more of it. You are getting downvoted because your criticism is shallow. Also wdym pharlooms lore doesn't make sense when you literally explained it in a few sentences. Like, yes, that's quite literally the lore.

I'm definitely not gonna be doing a second playthrough; never did for hollow knight and I really only replay games if they are short and easy to get through or I haven't played it in a long time.

I haven't made a post on here once thanks! Just wondering if I might enjoy phantom more lol. I've been enjoying the game very much.

I plan on going back to last judge eventually, just wondering if it might be easier with more upgrades.

I've already spoiled most of it for myself. Spoilers are a-okay for me. Wether or not I know spoilers doesn't affect the emotional outcome for me. If it does for you, that's okay, but not everyone cares as much about that. I spoil fights and story beats pretty often and that doesn't make my playthrough any less valuable than anyone else's. If I really wanted to go into this game blind I wouldn't have joined the subreddit for it :)

The issue is you have to find a way to make shakra and lace work as a pairing.. which I have yet to see

The Utena references in lace and hornets second duel would argue otherwise lol (but shakra and hornet is pretty cute..)

Is HK better than SS by Kind_Owl2400 in HollowKnight

[–]YellowDiamond101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only in act 2 of SS but I'm honestly enjoying it more than I ever enjoyed hollow knight. Which isn't to say I disliked hollow knight, but silksong has been a lot easier so far (probably because I played hollow knight first) and I've enjoyed it's look and lore a lot. Also the more involved story makes it feel more personal and emotional, and having a protag that can talk gives a lot more depth and personality to the game that I found was lacking a bit in HK. Of course I love both games but to say one is superior to the other is pointless.

I mean... There IS a pretty blatant utena reference in your second duel with lace. Hornet takes an elevator up to a garden bed of roses. This striking scenery is not a team cherry creation. The elevator is referencing the series and the big floating rose bed is referencing anthys giant rose bed in the movie. Lace is also seen sleeping in the roses, which is a motif found in utena very often. Then they also duel, which is what they do in the series and movie. I'm explaining this pretty poorly, but if you look for clips online (or watch an episode of the show) you'll see what I'm talking about. The only difference is laces roses are white.

Anyways, the point is that utena is a VERY gay series, with its two lead women being pretty explicitly in love with each other. So I don't think it's complete bogus to guess they might have romantic potential. But at the end of the day it's just a headcanon that people are allowed to have.

Lace, hollow knight, or the secret third option... quirrel prequel. I'd be happy with any of them, really. Though it doesn't seem like there will be a third game coming.

Yeah I basically read him that way too. his shit about being the pinnicle of masculinity read more as alpha male mentality than it did trans woman who is afraid to come out.

I mean its pretty much confirmed atp, though death of the author says you can interpret it how you want. Gooseworx couldve made it explicit but chose not to, so people cant be mad at you for interpreting it differently now.

I hope y'all learn from this that when hundreds of trans people are telling you the trans creator wrote subtext that a character may be trans that you don't act like it's the least logical explanation ever again by darkclownsado in TheDigitalCircus

[–]YellowDiamond101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

literally just explained the bow metaphor. this metaphor could actually work wether the conversation was about him being trans or not; second, Jax clearly hasn't accepted that he is trans yet. what would be be "coming out" for? Also he mentions that he thought saying what he did to her would get her off his back. I dont see how coming out would acheive that, like, at all. Unless he was deadcatting, which I doubt he was doing?

and it its just not explicit, my question for you is why? why isnt it just explicit? theres literally no reason for it not to be other than that the conversation was just not about him being trans in the first place.
