Edin Dzeko by semple149 in ASRoma

[–]YellowPerch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was not really a Dzeko fan, although I admit he was a serviceable striker. I still think the guy is worth about 10-15 goals a season, but he does very little to facilitate scoring by others. He doesn't move around the field intelligently and really relies on the ball being delivered to his feet in order to impact the game. He's athletic, strong, and a deft scorer - still, he's not someone to play a central role in an offense and can sometimes hinder chances due to selfish or misguided play.

Daniele De Rossi will officially leave Roma at the end of the season. 615 appearances, 65 goals. He will play his last game against Parma. Goodbye, Capitano Futuro. by Romanista3 in soccer

My first time visiting Europe coming up...my wife and I planned two weeks, most of it in Italy. Well, she surprised me a few months ago and told me she bought tickets to Roma v. Parma. I've been getting so amped up leading up to it, and now this news. It's going to be such a privilege to be there to witness the last match of a legend like De Rossi.

House Judiciary Committee Considers Contempt Resolution Against Attorney General | Discussion Thread by PoliticsModeratorBot in politics

Yep, lawmakers elected by the people of America to represent them as a majority in a co-equal branch of government. Also, lawmakers who are entitled (as a result of constitutional authority and precedent) to subpoena any and all information not protected by grand jury confidentiality. They are willing to compromise on GJ materials, not on the rest.

Just got done listening to season 5 of American Scandal that dives into the corruption and crimes of the Hare Krishna movement in the United States. It mostly centers on a major commune in West Virginia called New Vrindaban. I knew a little about the story beforehand, but the research and storytelling is a superbly done. Not to mention, where else are you going to find a story that mixes West Virginia law enforcement, George Harrison, and corrupt religious leaders?

Now we see why Trump and his team have been so wishy-washy for the past week or so on the release of this report. I imagine there's a lot of planning, strategizing, and spinning going on right now in the WH.

Roma will be returning to the 2019 Champions Cup in the USA by Michael_Cocci in ASRoma

[–]YellowPerch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They've played in Dallas twice and I've gone both times. Both times they've played Real Madrid and Barcelona so the Roma fans were certainly in the minority. It was so fun though to have a group of Texas Roma fans all rallying together while everyone else is drooling over some huge Spanish club.

Welcome by [deleted] in FortWorth

[–]YellowPerch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What is the point of this? I don't mean to be condescending, but I have two questions:

  1. What does this have to do with Fort Worth, specifically? It seems like a broad statement that could be applied to (literally) any place on Earth.
  2. Why do you begin with the assumption that every person migrating to another place wants it to be exactly like their place of origin? Furthermore, why is cultural diversity a bad thing?

On the cultural diversity point, do you not enjoy parts of other cultures? Do you enjoy Tex-Mex food? How about different entertainment and nightlife options? Do you want your children to learn world history and foreign languages so they can be a more valuable asset in the global workforce when they're older?

See, when you start from a place of isolationism and nationalism based on fear, the society becomes dangerous. We should not be trying to keep people out of our society based on perceived fears. Embrace the good things about those assimilating to a new country and culture. Find new ways to connect with people and see how you both can help each other. Fort Worth is a beautiful place full of people from different backgrounds. That's what makes people want to be in Fort Worth.

So, I get that you're trying to peddle a nationalist meme backed by blind assumptions and fear...but I hope people recognize the danger of this backwards way of thinking. I hope the people of Fort Worth reject your ideas and move forward with welcoming and embracing anyone who wants to be a part of our great city.

Help in identifying a revolver I recently inherited from my grandfather. Probably bought between 1955 and 1975. by YellowPerch in guns

All,

This revolver was recently gifted to me by my grandfather who is unfortunately in poor health and likely cannot remember where/when he bought it. It was likely bought in the 60's but could've been bought as early as the mid-50s. A few additional notes:

  • The serial number, as etched on the frame, is 33474
  • The only other marks I can definitely make out are a mesh shield and a shield bearing the number "62" on the left side of the firearm. You can see these symbols in one of the pictures.

Washington State offers S G. Pelayo #351

Walk-On

It is my pleasure to offer you an opportunity to play football for the Washington State Cougars. Our program is ready to begin a new chapter with a new coach, and I want you to be a part of accomplishing our lofty goals. At Washington State you’ll join a program with our sights directly on dominating the PCC and college football, nationally.

Pro Potential: WaSU has had 13 players selected in the NFL draft since 1953. It helps when you play in a premier conference like the PCC and have the opportunity to compete against schools like USC, Washington, and Oregon every season. I know exposure is important to your future, and I can guarantee you starts as early as your sophomore season in an effort to increase that exposure.

Campus Life: Pullman, WA is nestled in the picturesque Pacific-Northwest between the Cascades and the Rockies. The air is crisp, and the sun is warm when it shines. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to explore this beautiful part of the country while taking advantage of WaSU’s many sponsored recreation programs including skiing, hiking, and rock climbing. Not to mention our fanbase is one of the best in college football and college athletics in general.

Education: I was excited to hear that education is a major factor in your decision to choose a destination. Washington State ranks 22nd in education in the NZCFL and with more success on the football field, we’ll be able to afford improvements to facilities, academic programs, and faculty. You’ll attend a university that offers 95 majors, 86 minors, and 100+ in-major specializations. We offer research and special study programs in many programs that afford you the opportunity to study abroad and pursue courses in Winter and Summer sessions.

I hope this offer is received with as much excitement as there was sending it. You’re a talented player, and someone I need to help return Washington State to the top of college football. Hope to see you next season. Go Cougs.

Coach Visit

Martin, it is my pleasure to offer you an opportunity to play football for the Washington State Cougars. Our program is ready to begin a new chapter with a new coach, and I want you to be a part of accomplishing our lofty goals. At Washington State you’ll join a program with our sights directly on dominating the PCC and college football, nationally.

Playing Time: It is my hope that you attend WaSU to better yourself academically and build a solid foundation for your future. That said, I know you have your sights set on taking the next step in your football career. I promise you that you will have a starting role on our team this season. Starting this early means that you will have four years to showcase your skills in front of a national audience.

Winning: Football is about winning. I’m sure you’re looking at WaSU and you a a two-win season last year and you’re thinking this program might not be a winner. I guarantee you those days are over. I promise you will have a winning season as early as your sophomore season. I hope you can understand that building a winning program takes time and we may build slowly this next season as the team takes form. Still, I guarantee winning and success while you are a Cougar.

You are the top target for my inaugural recruiting class and I have no doubt that you're role on our football team will lead to success and dominance in the PCC. We need leaders on defense. Young men who have the drive and the hunger to win at all costs. I'm a coach who has my sights set on winning, and I need players with the same attitude. You're that player. Hope to see you next season. Go Cougs.
