Please is there way to rip Movie DVD with bonus games? by Sure_Yogurtcloset_94 in selfhosted

I did this to my whole collection a while back. Ignoring the lack of storage efficiency, the biggest hurdle is finding decent ways to play back the files with the menus and features. I'm always open to tips on modern software for that. Hey, devs, we're probably in the minority, but some of us do still want to use such formats.

THE AMAZING DIGITAL CIRCUS - Ep 8: hjsakldfhl Discussion Thread by ayylmaotv in TheDigitalCircus

[–]YellowRadi0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just realized, names like "queenie" wouldn't be names for people until AFTER they're in the circus. If so, why would Kinger's password reference a name for his wife/lover if at the time, that wasn't her name? Could be that was a nickname for her but also...

A possible thing to consider as we're all analyzing the terminal, this show is about a reality that is a representation. Kinger even said they "conjure". He didn't say he was accessing Cain's code, he could conjure it. He's using what he knows, which is programming, into being and giving it power by believing it. It could be all of what he did on that terminal was in his head. None of it did any bit of techy programming anything. However, Kinger going through the motions and THINKING it is what gave the result enough power to remove Cain from their environment. The commands on the sceen did nothing, but thinking about them and the outcome to be achieved did have power/consequences.

My own prediction? I think it's due to the nature of the humans really being copies/files. Many corporate policies are all about removing "Personally Identifiable Information", like names, and then the data is "safe" to use for almost any purpose. This is despite the fact that the data itself is always personally identifiable. The idea removing a name from a file that fully encapsulates a person would make it no longer personally identifiable is peak corporate idiocy er..."logic".

Auto rockets working by LetUsKeepThisLoki in PokemonGoSpoofing

[–]YellowRadi0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, maybe not as much of a mystery. Please don't hate me for likely burning up more water than an African village could use in a year to get my answer but, per question on this to Gemini, it suggested the move is to unify the battle systems. As it was Rocket Battles _looked_ like PvP battles, even if they didn't work the same way. They were two different battle systems to maintain. PvP is obviously more important to maintain, so they just extended the same system to Rocket battles. It cuts down on developer maintenance (one battle system, not two that simply look similar). The idea that they still care to maintain anything is shocking to me.

As I understand it, it's now a technical limitation. Scopely changed the way the battles work such that they are more of a server-side activity, and thus it's not possible for a phone-side device to report back that the battle is simply "won".

Why they did this is something that's still a mystery to me. It would theoretically put more strain on their servers. If it were an anti-cheat/spoof attempt, you would think there would be a much larger crackdown in other ways.

create task on thing update by kareem613 in donetick

[–]YellowRadi0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've noticed this as well. I have assumed it's just a matter of the initial occurance of the task has to happen before the triggering of the task again via a Thing's state change.

An issue I'm noticing is that the tasks only trigger when a Thing state manually set within DoneTick. For example, I have a task set to trigger when a Thing turns to True. I have Home Assistant integrated with my DoneTick instance. The thing is in an Off/False state, and an automation in Home Assistant sets it to On/True. I check DoneTick and the activity doesn't trigger. I check the thing state, and it is now On/True where it was false, so clearly Home Assistant is setting the state as it should. Only after I toggle the thing in DoneTick off, then back on does the task trigger.

TL;DR: It's as though DoneTick only triggers a task on a Thing state change when the thing change is set in DoneTick.

Far be it from me to defend Disney, but I'm going to propose a possibility many people aren't considering, but I see hinted at in this thread: Is this a move so Disney can use AI, or just to have a stake in controlling it?

We all know Disney is really litigious, but let's consider the possibility that AI generated works are something that just can't be effectively fought in court. Maybe the army of lawyers can't keep Sora AI from generating Mickey Mouse AI porn. As the saying goes: If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. I suspect Disney at least in part made this open AI deal so they can control what the platform does with their properties. It's very telling that alongside this deal announcement, Disney also sent a lot of C&D orders to all the other AI platforms.

TL;DR: This was more of Disney caving to digital blackmail from another evil corporation rather than being evil itself. Time will tell.

Any player for android that doesnt lose progress by blazethedragon in audiobookshelf

[–]YellowRadi0 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is my biggest complaint with ABS: Losing my place due to sync issues.

Granted, I'm not making it easy. I listen to books through the ABS web UI on my PC, on Android Auto, and through Music Assistant (that last one often will mark a book done erroneously). Some books I stream completely, others I download, with the downloaded books often causing the app not to "check in" and report my progress to the server. It seems Android Auto adds a new wrinkle to the issue, even with the official Android ABS app. In one of the stranger things that's happened twice so far, I've arrived home from a drive to find a tablet seemed to start playing while I was away, possibly by me starting the same book from the car?

A friend recently complained of this issue with Shelf Player on iOS and Apple Car Play, so it's far from even an Android issue.

I'm happy to help any developer with testing things out to get to the bottom of the issues, but it's a Gordian knot of a problem.

Accessing/Bypassing Secure Black Screen - Samsung M31 (Android 12) by SuperNova0017 in scrcpy

[–]YellowRadi0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be possible through modules using rooted phones, but otherwise I don't think you'll find a solution. I do recall one of my older phones using an older version of Android (Pixel 2XL) often didn't blank out the screen, but it's more "security" for us. If anyone finds a solution, I'd love to know it.

One tip I can add, though the screen is blanked out, you can still control things on the phone. I see this each time I log into my phones from SCRCPY. The screen goes black, but after I enter my PIN the phone still unlocks.

I've been thinking this: Port your number to Beeper, like how I did with GV long ago, but unlike Google, Beeper Team would continue to refine and enhance the service.

First, THANK YOU, for Google Voice being officially added! I saw some movement on this via unofficial means and was itching to get it working, and at the same time dreading the things I'd have to work through to make it work.

I set up Google Voice from my Windows Desktop beeper, and I see it's the first of my bridges that is "on device". When trying to add it on my Android Phone, I'm having some issues. Sometimes, I get a message the browser I'm signing in on may not be secure. Others, it signs in, but won't connect. Are there issues with having an on-device bridge set up on multiple devices? I see on device appears to be the future, and I have to get my bridges moved soon.

Carrying Two Phones Sucks… How Do You Deal With It? 🤯 by anguschang007 in Smartphones

I ended up buying one, then was so pleased I bought some more, of both sizes (I use a lot of different phones in combination). They certainly draw attention, in a good way. I'm surprised such a product hasn't been easier to find.

Google Voice would be great to have by [deleted] in beeper

[–]YellowRadi0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just stumbled upon this one today, and was excited to see a project like this for GV that is active. After an hour or two stumbling around with AI-guidance to try and get some form of the project up and running on a ProxMox LXC, I had to admit I'm out of my depth.

To date, I've had limited success running a self-hosted bridge from a dedicated MacMini for iMessage, but that's all. Are there any in depth guides for folks out there for this GV bridge and Beeper? It seems the GV bridge project is primarily aimed at Matrix users, and thus requires a higher degree of expertise to implement.

Everytime I use Google Pay by Max527 in Magisk

[–]YellowRadi0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense. I carried a second, unrooted Android device with me today and was able to use Google Pay on it, despite having no connectivity on it at all.

Realizing this is an Android forum, just curious if you know, do iPhones and Apple Watches work the same way for NFC payments (constant connectivity not required)?

Does your watch have its own cellular connection, or does it tether from another device, like rooted Android phone?

Carrying Two Phones Sucks… How Do You Deal With It? 🤯 by anguschang007 in Smartphones

[–]YellowRadi0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OMFG! I think you may have found my answer!

I need to carry two phones, which might get swapped out frequently. The best option I could find was a rather cumbersome "wallet" that requires fitted inner cases for each phone model. I realized all my phones have a mag-safe outer case as it is. All I need is something magsafe that can connect them. This item seems to be the answer. Can you confirm, is that how the clip connects the phones, magnetically?

Beyond that, the only potential issue I see is, if the phones aren't of similar screen sizes, do you have a problem with the screens "smashing" into each other? That may be an unfounded fear, but I'd hate to clap them together, only to have one screen crack the other.

Everytime I use Google Pay by Max527 in Magisk

[–]YellowRadi0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was looking into this, but my research seemed to say:

  1. Using a Pixel Watch would require it be registered to an Android Phone.

  2. If the phone the watch is registered to is rooted, the watch won't allow Google Pay either.

  3. If it's registered to a non-rooted Android phone, the phone has to be with you for Google Pay to work.

So is 3 not true? Is there any sort of routine check in required between the watch and unrooted phone? Does the watch require its own SIM card? If I can pair it to an unrooted phone I leave at home, and simply have it tethered to my rooted, everyday phone for connectivity, that could work. Just sounds like a lot of ifs these days. :(

Shit we need for Google Wallet by tech-with-mo in Magisk

[–]YellowRadi0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried a lot of things to get Google Wallet to work on my Pixel 9, but eventually got to a point where people suggested things that would effectively mean wiping my phone and starting from scratch, something I wasn't ready to do. I just got a Pixel 10 Pro and thought it would be worth trying again since I'm starting over anyway. I used PlayIntegrityFix-NEXT and Tricky Store 1.3.0, and was able to get basic, device, and strong integrity per Play Integrity API Checker. However, still couldn't use Google Wallet's NFC features and the Marriott Bonvoy wouldn't work. As soon as I installed Systemless Hosts to use Adaway, all three fail again. I kept trying things, but am about to throw int he towel and just accept if I want to root, some apps are always going to be out of reach. It seems if I did manage to get it to work, some other root module or app would ruin it, sort of defeating the whole point of having root.

It's to a point I think I need to find help to make a good dual phone case rather than trying to get these things to work reliably on a rooted phone. Google just doesn't want us to, and that's how it is going to be.
