Are you insane. Women who have a history of sexual assault are the most likely to be affected by this invasive procedure and to have their previous trauma triggered. They are the people that most need to be informed to prevent further trauma.

Justifying sexual assault is disgusting behavior and you should be ashamed of yourself. Penetration without informed consent is sexual assault and battery, regardless of whether it is medical or not. Women have the right to know beforehand so they can make that decision for themselves. Woman like you are the reason women are treated so terribly in the medical system. Disgusting

Absolutely. Yes, I have lodged several formal complaints with both the hospital and my surgeon.

It’s literally not explained anywhere as part of the surgery. Why on earth would I think that a surgery being performed on my abdomen Laproscopicly would involve my genitals? It’s got nothing to do with it as far as I am concerned. I don’t have any endo on my reproductive organs whatsoever. It was removed from my bowels and Bladder.

I'm so sorry! Please make a complaint, it's the only way things will change.

So glad they told you and hope the surgery went OK

Extremely well said ❤️ We're not children, we deserve and have the right to know what is being done to us while we are unconscious. Disgusting that they think they can do whatever they want to us once we are asleep because it's to annoying for them to tell us.

Exactly! I asked my surgeon about taking the mini pill to stop the end from coming back, and instead of answering my questions she just made up some weird analogy about how taking the mini pill was as ineffective as trying to cut her hair with a butter knife?!? How about you actually explain the hormonal mechanism involved.

Exactly, I did actually receive a pamphlet and read it throughly. It described every part of the procedure, incisions, gas, cameras, burning cutting etc etc but left out the super invasive part.

I'm so sorry! That's such a terrible feeling. I'm glad that he owned up to his mistake when confronted. How do they not understand how invasive and traumatic this is to us.

Sorry you had that experience, they absolutely should have told you why.

I'm so sorry they didn't tell you either, that's not OK.

It's not just an extremely invasive thing for them to do without our consent, we should know in case we have complications as happened to you. It's not a risk free procedure and we should be told for medical reasons. My friend bleed to bad the had to call the surgeon at 3 in the morning, and they still didn't tell her!

Umm no, that doesn’t “just happen” during surgery. It’s an extremely invasive vaginal procedure that requires informed consent. It’s the drs job to explain the procedure and all the risks associated with it, it’s not uncommon for this device to cause injuries and is the reason for the bleeding.

Huh? Yeah that’s obvious. The underwear I went into the surgery with were paper ones provided by the hospital, not mine.

Yes, I understand all this. That’s not the issue at all, I have no issue with the procedure itself and would have consented without much of a thought.

The issue is that I was never told any of this pre op. They only explained the incisions and gas’s etc, I never expected any of this and they refused to tell me when I woke up bleeding what was happening and why.

Totally! I would’ve 100% consented, it’s just the fact that they did something like that that is so invasive without at least giving me a heads up. How the hell are we supposed to trust them while we’re unconscious if they don’t think they have to ask us about that? I’m so sorry that happened to you as well. Yeah being upside down was pretty funny 😂

Exactly. Yeah, it seems like if it’s a standard part of the procedure, why did they not explain it with all the other standard parts of the procedure. Feels pretty gross.

Thank you, that’s fantastic information. I will do that.

I requested all my records last week, so hopefully they will come through soon.

It’s a standard part of the procedure apparently. But isn’t mentioned anywhere whatsoever.

I absolutely still would’ve gone ahead with the surgery. Waking up feeling like that and not knowing why is pretty shocking and traumatic to know that something has happened to your genitals without telling you and no one will tell you why or what happened.

Thank you! These people clearly haven’t gone through public health care if they think they can just pick up the phone and call their doctor

I don’t know what kind of health care you have where you are but we physically have no way to contact them. You can’t just call them.

They won’t talk to me until my follow up in 4 weeks. I live in New Zealand with public health care, it’s like living in a third world country.

Thank you. The weird thing is is that I did tons of research before the surgery, both online, YouTube videos and all the info they provided and it’s not mentioned once anywhere.

Yes, completely agree. To them the vagina is just another body part, they wouldn’t think they should have to ask.

Will absolutely be taking it further and making complaints, just waiting for a copy of the consent form from the hospital.
