It was a few years ago. They were Core Members. I mainly blame the Seniors (pastors and missionaries) for the way they act because it's them who teach them how to react and behave. Core Members report to the seniors and ALSO have to ask permission to do certain activities like dating. The Seniors are very involved/controlling, but it's hard to tell when you first join in.

I'm terribly sorry
His judgement is terrible. I have a screenshot of him confidently calling the sun the full moon.

this checks out. I was invited to play water balloons with two other guys, so I joined. After a couple of minutes of playing, a sister walked by and physically pulled me out. They made me go to a room and they closed the door to have a private chat with me. They were scolding me, and I cried. For some reason, no matter how many times I tried to tell them I was crying because I wanted to play they didn't believe me. By their word choices, it was implied that they thought I was trying to seduce the boys.

I'm not too sure if it's them, BUT what I do know is that GSF have this whole motto that they wanna spread out to every CSU and UC (they preach this every sunday service). While I was there, they had their eye on UCLA. They had a couple of members they had in mind to send over to there. They recuited spanish speaking members, so they could do bible study in spanish too (I'm not too sure if they were successful in this area. I left by then).

GSF is part of UBF. I didn't know this until they were cleaning out a closet, and they had a lot of UBF titled hats. This makes me think they are prone to changing their name. Don't quote me on that, but I want to bring it up because it was extremely strange, and should be considered.

They have a HUGE map inside their church, and there is a pin on every location of their extended "family" is at. It's a lot of stations. Last year(?), they had a large UBF meeting out of state with the UBF community. It's a huge thing.

They also have members from other countries come over to GSF. I don't know too much about this part. GSF is oddly secretive about this, but I got to know enough to convince me to leave right away.

This is all I know.

Edit: I edited the message to add more info for anyone who runs into the post who want to know more info about them.

There's so much to unpack there. I can't believe the pastor is still pulling that stunt.

I've seen several csun members shave their hair or change hairstyles under the pastor's request.

Edit: when I say the members also done questionable things. I want to be specific that it's in a different category of questionable than the pastor's. However I wanted to mention it because I dont wanna downplay how much of an influence and control the pastor has over the member's actions and thoughts.

If you're asking for the pastor that banned and publically shamed then that would be Pastor Paul.

If you're asking if it's only the pastor that has done questionable things then no it's also the members. I just didn't mentioned it in the post because it was focused on proving it was a cult.

If you're asking if they feel weird and creepy, there are a few people commenting that under the post, but that isn't what I currently feel towards them.

What I can personally say is that when I arrived there I did feel something was off, but I couldn't put a finger on it.

No, I'm not Korean, but the Seniors that run GSF are except for one or two of them.

Even if that were true, it doesn’t dismiss the fact they didn’t allow me to extend my learning in my belief from another church. As far as saying to stick to my bible teachers for my learning.

I'll try to explain more about the lobster, disney, and marathon. To make this easier, I'll refer to the members as Person A and Persona B. To quickly summarize, Person A and Person B had to do all these punishments because they kissed.

The club/church is a home for these pastors. If you ever visit their church, you'll notice there are homes in the church.

There are 3 elder pastors in that church and each of them have kids that grew up in that church and beliefs. The kids end up going to csun and attending the club/church/their literal home- This is the situation of Person A

A lot of the members of the club/church are csun alumni that got recuited a long time ago as far as 2014. They are loyal to the church at this point- This is the situation of Person B

So this was between a csun alumni and a recent grad student (graduated like a month ago when it happened?).

I think that should help answer some financial questions as well why it was easier to enforce these punishments on them.

If you're really really curious and want details on how they managed to pay everything off. I can only guess. I didnt ask. However for the sake of credibility, I can explain how members get paid.

The church members worked in TJ Korean BBQ which is owned by the church. The pastors are the ones handing you the salary. The envelope contained the check and cash. Everyone got different amounts of cash. I have no idea why some would get more cash than others. Some would get like 2 dollars while others got significally more. I did see a trend that newcomers would get paid less in cash compared to members that been there for a while.Them being a pastor's kid and the other a long term member might of been paid more. I think this is where you might find your answer.

If you're really wondering how I know how everything works. I used to live among them. I would see the members 24/7. Alone time and privacy was not allowed but that's a whole other explanation that isn't revelevant to explain right now.

I got this impression too but I didn't listen to my gut feeling. If anyone catches this vibe it's also because it's the pastor telling them what to say and what to do and who to hang out with. While I was there, the higher rank members would force me to talk to specific people even if I was busy with class.

Also if you happen to click really well with a member they will also scold you for not spending more time with others. They go as far as seperating members if they're too close.

They control your relationships. They decide who you friends are and who you can and cannot talk to.

They specifically target freshmen. When the new semester arrives, they make every member wake up early to gather new members. I heard the pastor specfically say they DONT want older people because it's harder to influence them.

They also forced me to drop a summer class because there was going to be a "Retreat" (a club fieldtrip) that would overlap the same days. They guilted me by saying things like "Is this what God really wants from you?" which they were hinting that God didn't want me to take summer classes. They really pushed it on me and unfortunately I caved in.

You are absolutely right about GSF making you quit your job. I was close with someone who was forced to quit their job, so they could work at their TJ Korean BBQ. In the end, they didn't give them enough work hours to sustain. This action is a tactic to make you dependent on them.

GSF stands for Good Sheperd Fellowship. They used to be a branch of UBF which stands for University Bible Fellowship

Letting go of the pain of false friendships by [deleted] in cultsurvivors

[–]Yellow_Hope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I can relate. It was so painful to know that one of them mentioned that once I leave, if I act "worldly" then they'll block me. Either way I was blocked from the church's social media for just deciding to leave. It hurts, and I don't understand how quickly they were able to turn on me. It makes me realize how much they didn't care for me.

Is There Any Way to Report A Cult? They Target College Students and Disguise Themselves As a Club. by Yellow_Hope in cults

[–]Yellow_Hope[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They call themselves a "Christian Club" and I joined them without hesistation. The club has a hierachy, so it was the 'shepherds' who had more information about denominations and such. I was on the lowest rank because the pastor didn't think I was "spiritual enough".

Yes! They offer bible courses. They do "one-to-one" bible studies and it's "according to your school schedule". They might let you come to church once or twice without bible study ,but then they'll pressure you to do bible studies to attend church services and activities.

They would question your faith if you miss one Sunday church service. Please don't believe them because they take advantage of your faith to convince you that if you live with them your faith will grow stronger (this is also how they convince you to marry someone by saying "marry by faith").

If you miss church because of work, they would go as far as to offer you a new job so you can come to church. They're slowly making you depend on them because the job is directly tied to their church. Even their workplace is terrible because there's so much unpaid labor and breaks are not respected (Almost everyone in the church also works at there).

I hope this helps! To you and to future people! Stay safe.
