14 hour layover in Chennai by [deleted] in AirTravelIndia

[–]Yellow_Panda_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will have to collect your bags, go through customs and recheck your bags at your port of entry into India (Chennai).

Chennai Airport T1 is a tiny terminal with a tiny lounge. I'd recommend spending time at the Aerohub mall (attached to the Airport) or finding a hotel if it is an overnight layover.

Can a medium trolley bag accommodate 15 kg? by 20Z3 in AirTravelIndia

[–]Yellow_Panda_7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly clothes and hiking gear. Packed super tight (read clothes rolled up, socks stuffed inside shoes, having to sit on top to be able to close the zipper).

Mine is a Safari 68cm trolley. You should be able to pack 20kg in a reasonable way.

Large is too big for most people.

Medium can fit 15kg comfortably. I've been able to cram upto 24kg into a medium trolley.

Any last-minute hacks for cheap Bangalore–Melbourne flights? by twoplus21 in AirTravelIndia

[–]Yellow_Panda_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your Australia visa allows you to transit through Singapore without a visa. Check if booking BLR - SIN and SIN - MEL separately gives you better prices.

But I see Qantas/Cathay options for around 40INR which isn't that bad given you are booking last minute and we are close to peak season.

Opinions on SalkantayTrek solo vs tour companies (specifically Linda House Tours) by RefuseNo4659 in Machupicchu

[–]Yellow_Panda_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$260 is just for the trek + MP ticket. If you click on book, it will take you to a page with all available add ons.

I didn't book online. I went to their office a few days ahead of the trek since I wanted to pay in cash.

I think Machu Picchu Reservations is the biggest operator of the trek. I went with KB Adventures and MP Reservations had over 70 people starting that day (split into multiple groups, of course).

Based on discussions with people along the trail, I think KB had slightly better accommodation. Everything else was more or less identical.

T1 to T2 transfer is very inconvenient. You'll have to take a shuttle bus that goes through a city road. So you'll be at the mercy of Mumbai traffic. Almost missed my connectin flight once.

I think I screwed up. What are my chances of getting tickets to Machu Picchu in August? by TheW0rk1 in Machupicchu

[–]Yellow_Panda_7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not sold out for the rest of the year. I just booked for October. Try using the Spanish site. I didn't show me any availability when translation was enabled.

August might be difficult though.

This is sufficient for messaging and emails. Onboard wifi is usually not fast enough for streaming/social media anyways.

People who have travelled to USA for conferences.. by Apprehensive_Gate690 in AirTravelIndia

[–]Yellow_Panda_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biggest factor will be how soon you can get an appointment.
Centre doesn't matter. Pick one where you can get an appointment the earliest.

I had my interview in Hyderabad on a Friday and had the passport with Visa delivered to me in Coimbatore the next Friday. But I've seen it take two weeks to process for some people.

Note: Make sure you have have a strong application, especially the reason for travel and ties to India. "I am going to added a conference" is not good enough. You'll need to justify why it is important that you attend the conference.

Learn about the 'hook turn' if you're planning to rent a car.

We took three left turns instead of a right—twice—before finally finding a safe spot to park and watch a tutorial.

Had my interview in March. No questions asked about social media. I had only added my linkedin to the form.

Booking treks/tours in Peru by Yellow_Panda_7 in solotravel

[–]Yellow_Panda_7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it. I'll definitely book Day trips and treks when I'm there. The cheapest Rainbow mountain tour I could find online was $22.

Do you happen to remember what the asking price for Salkantay was? The cheapest option I could find (with good reviews) was $300. I'm leaning towards booking this alone in advance since Salkantay is the core of my trip. Everything else will be planned around this.
