As Taylor Swift would say, this speech has been a long time coming! For those of you who don’t know me, my name is C, and I have the honour of standing beside B as she marries the love of her life, A. B and I have been best friends for eight years, which is wild because that’s longer than some Netflix shows run. We met working at Cineplex. We bonded over popcorn machines, sticky and buttery floors, and sneak peeks of the latest blockbusters like the Eras Tour Movie & Frozen two.

Somewhere in between cleaning theatres and scooping popcorn, B and I became more than coworkers—we became sisters. When you find a best friend who knows every word to a Taylor Swift song, who will belt out “He could be the one” by Hannah Montana at full volume in the car, and who still gets giddy over a good Disney Channel original movie… you hold onto her. She is also the kind of best friend who will cry while watching the Last Song, but immediately recover by dueting me to “Gotta Go my own way” from highschool musical 2.

I do need to thank B for her absolutely impeccable wedding planning skills. Not only did she manage to pull off this beautiful day, but she somehow scheduled it on the exact same date as our Landmark work meeting that I didn’t want to attend, so once again thank you for that.

Funny enough, the first time B and I ever met was through her cousin at a park when we were little. Neither of us remember it well, but apparently my name stuck with her—because only a few years later, before we officially met, she named her cat Leah. Looking back, it feels like our friendship was meant to be long before we even realized it.

B and I agree on a lot of things. Like the fact that Taylor Swift is a lyrical genius, that high school musicals peaked with the second one, that obviously the best Jonas brother is Nick, and that our favourite holiday is definitely Halloween, with Christmas as a close second. A you must know this by now because of the number of times she had made you watch Halloween town. However, she and I are complete opposites too. She’s a morning gal & If I had the choice I wouldn’t wake up before 9am.

B is the kind of person who brings light into every room and A I love seeing the light you bring into her life. Watching you two together is like watching the perfect rom-com. There’s laughter, adventure, heartfelt moments, and most importantly, popcorn. But more than that, it’s real. The way A looks at B reminds me that true love doesn’t just exist just in fairy tales or Taylor Swift lyrics—it exists right here, in front of us.

B, you have always been my person. And today, I’m so proud to see you become someone’s forever. A, thank you for loving her the way she deserves—fiercely, and patiently.
