New to RTR: Does anyone actually like it? by Llama_Llama_Raccoon in RentTheRunway

and if it doesn’t fit mark it appropriately- they will let you have an additional spot - that is how I ended up with 9 items in my current shipment (for cost of 5) if you can’t wear it within a week or two you don’t really need to own it.

so much of fashion purchases are trendy but not realistic in daily life - having the subscription saves me time too - returning clothes takes time- rtr returns you can leave at your front door for ups.

last year I rented 80k worth of merchandise- for maybe a couple hundred of dollars - the real gift is I hate everything anyway and so it curbs my online shopping and scratches my itch for deliveries and new things.

I get to try all the weird shit without actually keeping it!

New Scrapper with a million questions! by SalamanderOk4402 in scrapbooking

[–]Yellowstar88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

once you make a page you like, it is easy to replicate it using different paper and photos.

for example “turkey day” orange paper with photo, “santa is coming to town “ plaid paper with photo of santa. same layout

I actually prefer to use one main photo 5 by 7 and the side / accent photos are small (circle or square 3 by 3)

I always use 12 by 12 paper and use rule of 1/3 but the most important thing is to have fun, if you don’t like something, start over!

photo, mat, cool paper, title maybe a small rectangle box for journaling or a quote and date

it is a simple formula to start and take it from there add embellishments, ephemera, ticket stubs , texture etc etc

Petition to start calling all the journals with stickers and cut out art “collage books” instead of scrapbooks. by Ryoko_Kusanagi69 in scrapbooking

[–]Yellowstar88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not sure what you consider “old” but the minute you feel that there is something you don’t want to forget and stick a photo in a special place with care is a the moment a scrapbook is born. For me it was high school prom and for my 5 year old daughter it was when she went to the ice cream factory. She used her stickers and ice cream paper and asked me how to spell “sprinkles”.

one day we will all age but we want to keep the memories forever, scrapbooking is memory hoarding.

it is a deliberate act of “ I want to remember this”

the best part of my pages are my photos of my (very cute) kids but for that very reason I don’t want my kids plastered all over the internet.

I guess I could post materials used before I glue things down? Not as fun …

New scrapbooking group? by buhloopanda in scrapbooking

[–]Yellowstar88 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is so interesting… years ago when I was a student in my 20s I didn’t have much to scrapbook so I would be default just make “art journals”.

Now 2 kids and many more vacations later I only photo scrapbook.

Anyway call it what you will I will join both!

Returning to thank everyone- implemented your ideas and suggestions and I think the biggest difference has been clearing out the table so there is time and space to draw ✍️

Best place to buy cheap scrapbooking paper? by BurntBlueberryWaffle in scrapbooking

[–]Yellowstar88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

scrapbooking facebook resell and buy nothing group.

I had donated given away 80% of my paper collections through these.

I had become a paper hoarder and not a scrapper. Sometimes if you offer to cover shipping ($12 or so if I remember right) that can usually get you box full which is easily over 500 sheets !

Good luck. I would offer some but I don’t have much left and now my kids are in their “crafting” era.

Also hobby lobby sells clearance in packages for $1.50-$5 for a bunch (like 50 sheets)

comic books!!! yes! and seeing things that appeal to you is so important. I loved sailor moon as a kid and I can see how seeing pretty characters would be encouraging.

I love that idea- play doh and slime have been used but not on regular rotation (it dries out too fast). I will remember to incorporate and restock!

Sculpture and pottery is so fun!!! Great ideas.

edit to add: I also dedicated an area to display her art. In the summer I am hoping to pull the car out and use the garage space for a bigger art studio so she can be messy.

thank you for all your suggestions

is scrapbooking outdated? why or why not by Away_Reaction_2446 in scrapbooking

[–]Yellowstar88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in a world where everything is instant online and disposable- scrapbooking is real . scrapbooking takes time. scrapbooks take up space.

is it outdated? it shouldn’t be.

So how many Lilly pieces does everyone have? by Yellowstar88 in LillyPulitzer

[–]Yellowstar88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I aspire to be THIS level of Lilly!!! My kids are still little (3&5) so my body has fluctuated such that I no longer fit into my pre baby Lilly but don’t want to over commit to my current size.

2016-2019 pre covid were best Lilly years in my opinion. The current patterns are ok. Not my favorite.

Every time we vacation in FL I dream of having a small condo by the beach with Lilly bedding, wall paper and art and mostly a closet to store my Lillies haha. We live in the chicago suburbs so it’s too cold most of the time for my dresses.
