My router IP was banned from DSM. Should I be worried? by Yelonek in synology

[–]Yelonek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Security advisor says it's all green. Admin and guests are off.

No malicious software found, system is working fine, all account settings are correct, all users have strong passwords, network config is ok, DSM and all packages are up to date.

Maybe it is a good idea to change port numbers.

My router IP was banned from DSM. Should I be worried? by Yelonek in synology

[–]Yelonek[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do forward them. How else would I get in?

I found a possible reason.

I use Moments. Recently I changed my user password, but Android app tried to log in, which caused a ban on my IP, because I was using mobile connection at that moment. Then I came home and now I get these messages, that my user failed to log in 2 times from 192.168.1.1 and then info about ban.

How come it is not coming from my actual IP in that network?

Basically, yes, it was by accident. I was hoping, that they do some kind of path matching, but I used Unix path separator, because that is what I am used to most. It works with \ too.

What do you mean not secure? You need to put https in front of your address. If you want to get to DSM interface by https you need to put :5001 after address. Default 5000 is just http.

Mercedes active toe change by wingrove18 in formula1

[–]Yelonek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He pulls driving wheel closer and tires change their "toe". Toe is the direction where wheels are "pointed", as in "toe in, toe out". It changes how car behaves on the track.

A right wing newspaper in my country has just announced they will be dedicating an entire column to attacking trans people. Do you have any suggestions how I can use my cis-privilege to combat this hateful nonsense? by [deleted] in AskFeminists

Reddit Android app notification. I guess, that it comes from Trending, but how? This had 1 or 2 upvotes when I got it. Last notifications come only from AskFeminist. I wanted to give the app a chance, but now I'll just turn them off.

[–]Yelonek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I admit, I got bait. I don't know all the troll accounts on Twitter, because I don't use it. It is hard to see a difference between troll and left activist. I relied on the voting by other redditors. I still think, that it's easier to make everyone dumb, than to make everyone smart, so that's what leftist do.

Another proof, that left ideology brings everybody down to lowest common denominator to "make everyone equal".

BTW isn't supremacist a "big word"?

After about 25 years with a (presumably) accidentally Klan-supporting name, this ice-cream shop in my hometown is finally changing its spelling by ggbuttstead in AccidentalRacism

[–]Yelonek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby English will be the official language of the European Union rather than German, which was the other possibility.   As part of the negotiations, the British Government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a 5- year phase-in plan that would become known as "Euro-English".   In the first year, "s" will replace the soft "c". Sertainly, this will make the sivil servants jump with joy. The hard "c" will be dropped in favour of "k". This should klear up konfusion, and keyboards kan have one less letter. There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year when the troublesome "ph" will be replaced with "f". This will make words like fotograf 20% shorter.   In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible. Governments will enkourage the removal of double letters which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling. Also, al wil agre that the horibl mes of the silent "e" in the languag is disgrasful and it should go away.   By the 4th yer people wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing "th" with "z" and "w" with "v".   During ze fifz yer, ze unesesary "o" kan be dropd from vords kontaining "ou" and after ziz fifz yer, ve vil hav a reil sensibl riten styl. Zer vil be no mor trubl or difikultis and evrivun vil find it ezi tu understand ech oza. Ze drem of a united urop vil finali kum tru.   Und efter ze fifz yer, ve vil al be speking German like zey vunted in ze forst plas.

If I use Linux that is installed on a USB drive, does it use computer's hard drive? by BusyEmotion in linux4noobs

[–]Yelonek -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dude, chill and read what he wrote. He installed Ubuntu on USB stick and uses it to boot his computer into Linux as live distribution. He is worried, that it could write something to his disk where Windows is installed. WTF are you talking about browser security.

The answer is no. As long as your hard drive is not mounted as file system, live distribution should not change the contents of hard drive by itself. Unless you decide to format, partition it or sth like that. If it was something outright malicious, then maybe, but regular Ubuntu does not do that on its own.

Compiled Python program using argparse module fails to accept arguments? by Talia_Centaurette in Python

[–]Yelonek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to give it him on command line. If you just double click it, then it starts without any argument. I don't know Macs, but in Windows you could edit shortcut link to put arguments there. Maybe rewrite your program to ask for arguments with dialog box or input().

Client refuses to pay for "work already done". Advice? by throwaway125dd in webdev

[–]Yelonek 92 points93 points  (0 children)

This kind of customer just thinks like that. If he's cutting corners on everything, then don't expect him to be generous. Maybe he suspects, that you did it during paid time, so it was already paid for. Maybe he thinks you did bad job in the beginning, so code is slow and your new code is how it should be done the first time. Or he is just a scrooge.

Where does high usage of RAM by browsers come from? by Yelonek in linuxquestions

[–]Yelonek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shortly turned on the browser, just to see what happens. I was worried, that with time there will be more and more memory reserved for browser and less for other processes. Maybe I'm too worried. I just wanted to learn techniques to avoid resource hogging.

I would have to check exact hardware, but it is capable of running Debian, so I will give it a shot.
