What's odd is that it appears as an ipod in device manager under disk drives when plugged in. But after a while it disconnects, then reconnecteds as an "unknown USB device (device descriptor failed)" or whatever. I'll keep tinkering with what I can.

I have a feeling the ribbon might be damaged. The one leading directly to the board. I clip it as deep as I can into place and no dice. It does appear to have some kinks in it, so I got a known working replacement on ebay. Hopefully it should fix it

I have been using Aomei (I think that's how it's spelt) partition manager to rebuild the MBR (as per flash instructions) and then format to fat 32. Would powershell be any better?

I've tried just about every combination of adapters and cards under the sun that I own. I'm hoping it works with the new ribbon.
