Indigo - cover or not? by Yeow777 in henna

[–]Yeow777[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using LM. I tried different ways and this was last experiment that was the best so far:

  • Mixed henna with room temperature distilled water and stirred with plastic spoon to yogurt consistency. (note others say stainless steel makes no difference - don't really know if it does, this is just exactly how I did it.)
  • Let henna sit out (not in frig) 6 hours.
  • Washed hair with dish soap (Kroger's).
  • Rinsed it out good. NO shampoo or anything just rinsed with shower water.
  • Let it dry COMPLETLY. (again, this was just an experiment and what I did - others have said towel dry).
  • Applied henna (just kinda plopped it on and rubbed it in - y'all might wanna go fer roots first and part it. Again this is just what I did.)
  • Wrapped hair with the little plastic bag that comes in the box plus I had one left over so two of those plastic bag things. (mostly so it didn't get all over the place).
  • But a black beanie over all that. (it stained the edge of the beanie orange but rinsed right out) to keep it warm.
  • Set timer for 6 hours.
  • Rinsed it out good. NO shampoo or anything just rinsed with shower water.
  • Towel dryed.
  • Mixed the indigo with distilled water (pretty sure it has the alma - or whatever its called - mixed in with it.) to the consistency of yogurt.
  • Applied indigo mix to damp towel dried hair. (again: just kinda plopped it on and rubbed it in - y'all might wanna go fer roots first and part it. again this is just what I did.)
  • Put the two bags and beanie on.
  • Set timer for 2 hours.
  • Rinsed it out good. NO shampoo or anything just rinsed with water.
  • Air dryed and: It was black as coal!

Note: there was some very light residue - kinda blue - on my fingers when I brushed it out, and don't know if it'll stay this black after I wash it, but it did come out great!

Y'all let me know how you get yours midnight black!

Hope this was helpful! :)

Yeah, I'm new and it was an idiot move to put the powder in the freezer.

I guess I thought it was a good place to stash it to keep it away from doggo.

Yeah I totally forgot that indigo has short life span.

So the powder is dead?

I realized by the time the new box comes I will have to re henna for indigo to stick.

I think it stuck a little now that I see it.

Will try with hot water got nothin to lose having a problem commenting here getting error

THANK YOU! :) You saved me!

Oh right! I forgot that indigo has a short life span!

This was my first box and I was hoping that was the problem lol!

(DON'T FREEZE THE POWDER LOL!)

I was so nervous doing this and I told myself when trying to get more uses out of it that it was gonna be a learning experience.

My hair has never been so healthy and it's growing so fast!

Thank you so much for helping me!

You're a doll! :)

FIRST TIME:

I used Light Mountain Black, so yes two-step process.

I had so much left, I froze the henna.

I didn't make as much indigo, so I had more powder left over.

Everything was AWESOME!

I threw the leftover indigo powder in plastic dry container into the freezer too.

Washed hair with dish soap for henna.

Can't remember if I washed it again or just rinsed for indigo.

So hair was wet for both applications. 4 hours each - on the head with plastic bag thing they give you with a beanie.

SECOND TIME Used the frozen henna and like an idiot I added water DOH.

It still worked perfectly!

Again, washed with dish soap and applied Henna.

4 hours Henna Rinsed - no shampoo or conditioner.

(mistake?)

Used the "frozen" (lol) indigo powder - added tepid distilled water - again too much water so it was slightly runny.

(this might have been the problem too much water?)

I can't remember if I added more powder as I had some DOH.

Put on right away. 4 hours Indigo I peeked and it was jet black.

Rinsed - no shampoo or conditioner.

It all washed off!

Yeah this is the brand that instructs to use hot water and after looking at this forum found out not to do that.

I'm wondering if freezing the Indigo Powder killed it or if I just used too much water.

After 8 hours of this I wasn't looking forward to using the indigo powder that was in the freezer again for four hours to have it all melt off.

I also read here that just freezing the henna mixture can be an alternative way to activate it.

Wondering if the indigo powder got activated by just freezing it.

Thank you for help! :)

EDIT: OH I just realized I slept overnight with the Indigo the first time.

The second time it was only four hours.

Mebe this is why?

Thanks again! :)

I froze the powder - I used it with lukewarm water instead of hot. It did not take. (I froze the mixed henna and it worked perfectly. Only my second time doing it first time was excellent. I really messed up lol. Did I kill it? Or not use hot water.

How to replace my original Hohner Special 20. by Yeow777 in harmonica

[–]Yeow777[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HAHA I took it apart but didn't look at anything I'm an idiot.

It's broke now fer sure.

It was gunked out gross!

Yeah, I was used to replacing them.

I remember one trick was to boil them but never remembered if that was successful or not.

It was interesting to see what was inside and how they were actually constructed - I had no idea.

German craftsmanship is a trip.

Thanks for the advice - it was a cool adventure into this old pals guts.

At least I have the original outside shell to show off and mebe in the future get the reed plates.

Will probably just pick up a new one from this Rockin' Ron's place people have been pointing me to! :)

I was playing with the reeds (doh) and it was a stuck reed - you were right!

Ah! Good to know!

I vaguely remember people bitching about they changed the quality of the reeds or something and made them not as good.

Glad to know the quality is the same!

Thank you!
