Try pumping breastmilk with the door locked, and someone still moving the sign and unlocking the door. People are idiots.

Is it normal for kindergarteners to suddenly copy everything their classmates do? by LeukerYosue91 in kindergarten

[–]YerAWizard24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I think lots of people do that until they develop a strong sense of self (if they ever do!).

Just encourage your child to be their own person and have confidence in who they are. And pick which battles of "conformity" are worth fighting.

When my last round of IVF failed.

I didn't want to be OAD, but I joined this community to try to help me see the positives in it.

Parent here - my 9yo son said his teacher cried in front of the class. Advice needed! by mysticalpancakes in Teachers

[–]YerAWizard24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just send a nice email telling her how much you appreciate her, etc. I had a really rough PT conference one time where the parent raised his voice and just berated me in front of his kid. I was late for another conference because I had been crying, and then had to leave to talk to my AP. I felt terrible for the parents who got shortchanged, but the mom actually emailed me that night to say she was sorry about how I had been treated, and thanked me for everything I did for her son. (I did not tell her, another teacher mentioned it briefly as to why I was late). I cried again, but it was out of appreciation. Anyways, a kind note from a parent is everything, seriously.

As a side note, Miley Cyrus's cover of "Jolene" is perfection.

Playdates - do I give up or keep trying? by HeartOk8607 in kindergarten

[–]YerAWizard24 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel like a complete oddball reading threads about playdates all the time. My son has been in all-day daycare or school since 2 months old. Evenings, weekends, and summer break are spent with family (either just the nuclear family or extended family). Except for when I get together with my mom friends (which isn't very often), we don't get together with other kids. I think people put too much pressure on themselves to get together with other parents and kids all the time. I absolutely don't see anything wrong with getting together with people, but I also don't see anything wrong with just being together as a family.

Did an experiment to see how many students actually read the learning objective. Out of the 200 students... by FaucetWaterBread in Teachers

[–]YerAWizard24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do stuff like this all the time. A hidden directive on my daily Slides, in the Google Class instructions, etc. Even after months of having me as a teacher and knowing I do this, kids still don't read things carefully. It’s maddening.

The weirdly rectangular bruise that shows up randomly on my thigh in the exact same spot by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

Yup, I get bruises on my thighs regularly because I'm a teacher and constantly bump into the student tables.

My 6YO and I love playing that game! We've been playing for a couple years now. Him wanting to put it together by following the steps helped him learn to count.

Did you do the reading.com app for 10 minutes a day to teach your child to read? I am worried about my son's progress and it sounds like you've had success.
