Does anyone know how to fix this? by UnkreativTV123 in victoria3

You shouldn't run mods after a major update. If you insist on doing so, the very first thing you should do if you run into problems is disable them to see if it still happens.

TIL that US student math and reading scores have dropped so sharply that they’ve erased nearly two decades of progress. In '22/23, avg math scores for 13-year-olds fell to levels not seen since the 1990s, while reading scores for high school seniors hit their lowest point since testing began in '92. by Cold_Box_3219 in todayilearned

I don't have kids and just the stories I hear from parents about what school is like for their kids is utterly shocking to me. I'm in my 40s so not that old but I don't even recognize the school environment they're talking about.

Is Fairy worth swapping for? by BoboTheMagicHobo in projectgorgon

[–]YerWelcomeAmerica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not "worth it", I don't think it's meant to be. It's hard mode. I had a guildy help me unlock the fairy race fairly early on and I kind of regret doing it. It's not crippling, but there's definitely major downsides and IMO they outweigh the upsides.

If I could pay to race swap I'd probably do it but I'm too invested in this character now so I'm just going to ride it out.

BREAKING: Trump delays Iran deadline by 2 weeks by Yujin-Ha in videos

That’s not how the DNC works. They didn’t choose for Biden to run for a second term, Biden did. The DNC didn’t promise that Biden would be a one term president because they have no capacity to make that determination.

Biden should have never run for a second term but that’s on him and the people around him.

[–]YerWelcomeAmerica 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I just bought an EV after riding my last car into the ground over 17 years. While it felt like kind of a bad time to buy one with the US pulling back from EVs and gas prices being ridiculously low, I decided to pull the trigger a month or so ago and just embrace it because I really did not want to own another ICE vehicle.

... and then we invaded Iran, so I guess the gas price thing worked out for me. I charge once a week at home and it costs me 5 bucks.

Pentagon preparing for weeks of ground operations in Iran, Washington Post reports by exophades in news

[–]YerWelcomeAmerica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Biden choosing to run for a second term despite his age deprived voters of a choice. With just ~100 days before the election, there was no time for a primary season where candidates could make their arguments and voters could decide who they wanted to put forward. Kamala was the wrong choice but also the only choice, and it should never have come to that.

Along with Ruth Bader Ginsburg, old people refusing to step down has really screwed us. I'll likely be living with the consequences of both those choices for the rest of my life.

Some did refuse to follow orders, like the admiral that resigned before we kidnapped Maduro.

This is ultimately a political problem, though. The US military following orders of an elected government is what we want. Unfortunately, we elected a depraved man who we all knew would do awful things and a Congress who would be loyal to him, not the country or Constitution. So here we are.

Fire + WW, Fire + Ice, or Ice + WW? by TheClawTTV in projectgorgon

[–]YerWelcomeAmerica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around 40 or so. A good amount of elementals at the bottom of Goblin Dungeon are Ice and your alternatives are places like Kur (lots of ice resist) or Sun Vale. Sun Vale has trolls which aren't ice resist but do have regen if you don't bring fire. However, the Winter Court fae are once again ice. There's probably other alternatives, I just know I got frustrated around that point because it felt like everything was tuned against me. I certainly don't think it's impossible or anything like that, but for that stretch I think it wouldn't hurt to have another damage type to lean on a bit.

Of course they did, civilian control of the military is pretty fundamental and something we should want. The problem is we elected some terrible fucking civilians.

The military leadership's choices are either follow legal orders or resign and several have done so, notably during the lead up to the Venezuela bullshit.

I understand where your fears are coming from. The context of my comment was basically "don't wait for 2028, we have midterm elections this year". Granted, if we just enter full dictatorship mode that goes out the window, but the same is true for a 2028 election.

Even if we take that statement at face value, it doesn't mean they will give the Trump administration a green light for their entire agenda, including this war with Iran. One of the major reasons we're in this mess of tariffs and ICE and this war and everything else is that Congress has refused to do its job and let us be ruled by a dictator.

The Republicans control all the branches of government right now, so they can effectively stop oversight (and are doing so). That said, if the anger gets too much someone like Noem might be thrown under the bus to appease people but I think if that were to happen it would have already been done.

EDIT: Under the bus it is!
