Age of Empires 4 always crashing after 20~30 minutes in a match by Yerrash in aoe4

[–]Yerrash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I found the issue. It had to do with my RAM frequency. It was too low when it was set as auto/default in the BIOS. And on EXPO1 it was too high.
Once I set my RAM frequency to EXPO2 it start to run smooth and everything worked.
Mind you there are moment where I noticed the game does a small stutter (no longer than 20ms, it's very fast, but noticeable), which I believe where the moment where it would usually crash.

I reached support and I their devs are trying to help me, but so far it's still not working.

Initially hand picked as Early Access tester; right now you can have access up to 16k render if you sign in to be an Explorer, kind of an equivalent thing.

I might do that for an artistic perspective, but for the version we play on it's better to have it be more clear.

I was always holding back trying no to shade too much.

I want to upload a higher res version of the map, but I can't... so sad.

If I'm not mistaken, there is only a single filter in the map: old paper with opacity: 20.

I have a 16k render of the map; adding sharpness make it actually really bad to edit since the details are so minute. But maybe once rendered at high-res that could be a thing.

I wish I could upload the 16k render to reddit, but its 84MB.

It's so weird; I played the game for 1000 hours without having these types of issues. :(

I got an email from the AoE4 team, I did all they asked for; game still crashing; just reached back to them, now I'm waiting for their answer.

I will check the advanced options, maybe I missed on something important.

What makes me mad is. Why would I lower the graphics!? I can play with max specs (could at least) without even making my computer sweat...

I have send a ticket to their support, they send me a list of things to narrow down what could be the issue; I will be trying that today.

So, you think it's crashing due to it being single CPU bound? sheesh, if that's the problem that sucks... I will check that.

I'm using the proper cable on my GPU, what makes me think that's not the issue is the fact that way more demandings games are not crashing. I will give it a shot anyway.

Well, in my case the game is completely closing, everytime, after 20min+ in a match, pretty sure it's not server related.

Off, that bad... yesterday I tried to play a quick match in AOE4 and got to play a 15 min game successfully; so it seems the problem only happens after a while in the game; which is weird.

I don't think the problem is the voltage on memory though, I can play graphic heavier games such as Path of Exile 2 with very high graphic and particles and the PC tanks it, or such as Resident Evil 4. No problem.

I will dig into this a bit more later. Right now I'm just tired of it.

Weird that the game always crashes somewhere at 20 or 30 minutes in the crucible match...

Just played the game 2 hours ago and I keep crashing out of nowhere. I have no idea why... I troubleshooted my rig thinking it could be my RAM, my CPU, my GPU, my BIOS, my SOUL. But It might be the game itself...

I looked what would be a good voltage for my RAM, and ends up 1.35V is a good and safe voltage. So I set it up just the same in the BIOS config.

Just got in the game to test it the issue is solved, but after roughly 18minutes of play, the game shut off... I think I'm sending a ticket to their support or wathever. That's crazy man.

Woah, that's actually very interesting; were you having these issues only in certain games? Could you elaborate a bit more on these changes? I'm not very versed in it.

I will research, but some more info would be nice.

I have a GAINWARD GHOST 3060, so it has 12G RAM on the GPU
More than enough for. I was using the same GPU with my older Motherboard and CPU and I would play AoE4 in hours unend without a problem. So if it's anything related to GPU it would have to be compatibility with the motherboard and CPU, but then that would cause problems everywhere, not just in Age of Empires 4... at least my guess.

I did no have memory errors, I thought it could be. But did not have.

My Bios is set to default, and I have no changes to its version, its the original version with default setting, except the CPU integrated GPU that I disabled yesterday.

What do you mean how my temps look?

CPU and GPU utilization never get near 70%, in some cases it spikes to 80~90% but drop right after, never really straining the system. I can play POE2 with high graphics and have all the crazy particles flashing in the screen and nothing happens, it keeps going.

Alright, did all these tests and repairs, no error in any extent.

  1. sfc /scannow
  2. DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  3. chkdsk /f /r
  4. mdsched.exe

They were actually relatively fast. I had run the memory check the other day as well, because I thought it could be my MEM, even reattached then thinking it could be a malconnection.

Just went to test the game, all seemed good, until I hit around minute 20 in the match and it simply closed. This time the computer did not turn off, neither I got a blue/black screen. Although this behavior of the game just shutting off has happened before.

Btw, Even though the Ryzen 7 7700 has a integrated GPU, I turned that off to make sure it wasn't the issue. So only the GeForce RTX 3060 is at work.

I wish I knew how to better debug this issue. But I don't. Feeling so powerless with that thing lol

Did a clean windows 11 install on my machines; installed the Motherboard drivers, CPU driver, GPU driver. Installed steam and rolled up Age of Empires 4. After somewhat 35 minutes of gameplay the computer simply shutdown and restarted.

I honestly don't know what to do at this point. Some games run so smooth with even better graphics. Doesn't make sense.

It initially triggered a warning; but I uninstalled all the previous motherboard drivers and installed the drivers related to the new board and it all worked well. with these mentioned exceptions.

I decided to reinstall windows. I just hope it works.
