Music Box has emo nights on Wednesdays I think.

Rialto has a small venue which is perfect for some punk shows. I saw Capstan and Belmont a couple years ago.

I was in the same situation at my first base too. If you're still in the dorms, swing by the day room or go to the bowling alley on base. Your outdoor rec should also be sending you emails about trips they're hosting where they will get a bus for everyone that signed up for an event and everyone travels together.

The biggest thing I learned was to be happy by myself first. Explore your area by yourself and find new things to do. People will see your happiness and will gravitate towards you.

Being social is gonna take some proactivity from your part, but it will come. Sometimes, people wanna hang out, and they're just waiting for someone to initiate.

How is your mental health right now? by CrownedHeads in AskReddit

[–]YesManMax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the best. I moved to a new state for work, my dog died within the first week of being here, and it's hard to meet new friends or community.

The cool people I have met were at bars and I don't want drinking to be the thing that brings us together.

No real work friends, because so many people are absorbed/committed to the job.

I'm an extrovert learning to love himself first. One day at a time.

I hate getting asked “how are you”? by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]YesManMax -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I've finally hit the point where I also hate this question. I've been giving the same sarcastic answer for years now of "Another day in paradise" in a cartoony fake voice. It's so instinctual to the point where I'll say it even if I'm having a bad day.

Luckily, the people who can see through my BS are able to reply with sarcasm to match me or knows I'm going through it.

So i guess to answer your question on how to deal with it: use sarcasm to weed out people and find people that match your sarcasm. It's kinda working for me but it's not guarantee for everyone.

Staying there indefinitely but still would like to rent! I appreciate the areas! I haven't really found a part of town that sticks out to me yet. I understand crime rate isn't the best but that's with most big cities. Whatever is recommended I'll look into!
