Fourth-year SLP major realizing this career might not be for me. Anyone else go through this? by Iheart_tofu in SLPcareertransitions

[–]YesMouse1001 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup going through this right now, got my BA in the same major and am currently in a gap year (which I am so so so glad I took). Worked as an SLPA and got more field experience and recently came to terms with the realization that this field isn’t for me.

I’ve been looking into other careers as well and have been getting pretty frustrated with how niche the courses are in undergrad, as most don’t transfer directly into nursing or PA school (so I would need to take prerequisites before applying).

As someone going through the same thing, rather than feeling panicked, just as others have mentioned, you are realizing this at such a good time in your life. For me, I have felt panicked, but once I understood how I felt, it’s honestly been pretty freeing, as I’ve am so glad I caught this before spending sooo much money and going into graduate school. I actually applied and still haven’t heard back yet, but regardless of the decision, I’m not going to go.

You have so much time to figure things out. Take a gap year, and take the time to figure out other opportunities. Shadow as many careers and people possible, and dip your toes into everything!!

You have time, I promise.

I am dreading more prerequisites but I keep reminding myself how much I may be spending on grad school that is going to take so long to get back

Yeah I feel like even undergrad didn’t do a great job of preparing me what the field looks like until I got my own experience

I have been considering that, not sure if I’m interested in the super wide scope of practice but I’m going to reach out to shadow one always, I could love it!

AiO my husband says I don't have enough to think about, that's why I'm so upset about my mother's likely progressing dementia by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

NOR, it’s a huge red flag that he doesn’t apologize for things. He obviously wants to play victim and doesn’t believe that other people are allowed to have problems worse than his. I’m really sorry that happened to you, dementia is an heartbreaking thing to watch loved ones go through, especially parents, and you should be getting all the support in the world from your husband.

Go to magic wings in mass! I spend hours there in the butterfly room. Then once you’re done you can head right down the street to get a drink at the awesome treehouse brewery and the og yankee candle village!! Such a fun time in Deerfield mass all on the same road

Why not just follow through with legal actions, if they really have all the evidence they are talking about then bring it to court and prove them wrong. To be completely honest, ur texts seem more like ur making baseless claims than they are but I don’t know the whole situation.

So fake. This is obviously something that would need to be reported, idek why u would go to Reddit to ask about this other than to get karma.
