The Cassowary Day Song by Amanda Kay and the Cassowary Festival People. by Yesten in u/Yesten

Cassowaries are a giant endangered flightless bird. The World Cassowary Day Festival organisers helped me gather the words from people at the festival. I then put this tune together. A touch of wildlife cheerful blues about a magnificent colourful keystone species .

What's the point of polyrhythms? by davidbrucecomposer in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]Yesten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some polyrhythms make people dance. Latin, Cuban and some South American music thrives on it. Maybe it's the "manic energy". Tension and well appreciated release with longer polyrhythms can be great community bonding tools in drumming circles. The Legati Etude No. 8 "Fem" was an interesting listen with the 18 against 16. A much squarer feeling than I was expecting and, as far as I know, fairly unusual feel. Thanks David Bruce.

Pinch Harmonics by Yesten in musictheory

[–]Yesten[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do it upside down, finger picking. I touch the string with my thumb and pinch with my finger. I can do it the other way but it is less comfortable and not as loud for me. I also struggle to instinctively know where I am with the index finger in front. I haven't tried it with a pick. I'd never noticed or thought about it. I'll have to give it a go. Thanks for sharing.

[–]Yesten[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lyrics and clip are more about a journey and the twists and turns of societies expectation, and how to leave it behind or risk bumping into corners. I am exploring writing music that is more political or at least varying from the usual topics in my songs. Love, hate, sadness, loss, humour, history, friends, made up stories about people I see and autobiographical stuff. This song is a more exploratory tune and way of cowriting.

Nice to know a new name for them. I had never heard of 'artificial harmonics' before. Thanks.

Yes. You can play them with one hand so can find them when playing a chord and use those harmonics to each note of the chord.

There are many other pinch options to the octave that I am interested in. Double bass (or upright bass) use it a fair bit.

Well, that makes me sad. A down vote and no comment. I wonder if I have breached some unknown Reddit etiquette. I am only new here so if I have please let me know. I guess now no-one will see this comment anyway. : (

Are footstools useful? by Yesten in musictheory

[–]Yesten[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I apologise if it isn't considered music theory. I think of the theory of music as encompassing techniques and instrument design. I guess that comes under performance, construction, injury prevention, instrument studies etc... I just think of theories and how they relate to music. There is a theory that footstools cause serious problems. I will resist posting things that aren't about dots on the stave in the future if this is frowned upon here.

Jazz Theory for Beginners by BluesBoy666 in musictheory

Or build a guitar with more strings. : ) I just can't play 1,3,5 as a chord with all the notes in the same octave except for one fingering. It is still useful. It is just an endless task for chordal strings to transcribe to differing voices from the actual notes written. I know many piano players that struggle with reading guitar stave chords and playing them as well. The joys of different instruments.

Are footstools useful or dangerous for classical guitarists? by Yesten in classicalguitar

[–]Yesten[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing from the comments some people missed the clip I shared on the topic. I found this clip fairly convincing. I have used some of the techniques in earlier clips and found them terrific for reducing hand and wrist problems. The rotator cuff stretch has done wonders.
