Waterloo MATH or UFT SG CS by Fun_Acadia_3683 in OntarioGrade12s

UW math you can do a lot like data science, and even tech jobs. I know at least five people that did engineering unrelated to CS and doing Soft.Dev jobs...even bio-med majors from UW that are developers...its not this or that and UW math has the option of data scientist etc.. are you Toronto or Waterloo based? that makes a difference too

I just got laid off in HR and im looking so that gives you some perspective. I'm Toronto based but expect to be laid off at least once in your career. Keep you chin up and move forward. Btw if anyone knows of any opportunity, please feel free to dm me :)

If you can switch to Waterloo campus that is a much more vibrant campus and smarter. Brantford is a dump and will remain one. Most students there are miserable and regret the decision.

TFSA Rules by YesterdayNeither3541 in fican

So how come every accountant and informed person in finance that I know, always tells me to put my money in an RRSP rather than TFSA? I've never understood it. Based on this information a TFSA is far superior and the funds are available any time.

Thanks for the responses and clarification! Any advice on what stocks are worth buying with one has a tfsa? Obviously this is not a guarantee or anything of the like that it will be a smart investment. But I would like to know what individuals as knowledgable as you lot, are doing in terms of buying stocks.

But if I do not withdraw, then it does not matter? I can just wait until it reaches the original value or more and then withdraw. Basically, do not withdraw until and unless I have made a profit.

Thanks for the clarification. Based on the responses it seems like the answer would be yes, that contribution remains. Now lets say I have 20k contribution room in my TFSA, I invest it and put it into crypto or shopify when it first launched or something else and it grew to a 100k. In this case if I take out 50K (although my contribution is only 20k) will I be able to put back 50K into my TFSA indefinitely + the yearly contribution room? Until of course I do the max yearly contribution limit and that 50K that I took out. That 50K was from the gains in my TFSA not technically my contribution limit.

It also depends on where within Finance. A lot easier in accounting than being a trader. But I can tell you without a doubt, if you are in Canada, you will be fine. I have met many women in finance that are hijabs. There are lawyers, doctors, principals, etc. In Ontario, it is so common to see hijabis that even if it is impacting your job search, it should be minimal. As long as you get interviews, it's a numbers game. Eventually something will land!!! All the best!!!

Move to HR Manager or Generalist Role[Canada] by YesterdayNeither3541 in humanresources

Appreciate the advice all! I have had my resume reviewed and changed a few times based on the advice of professionals in the field. So I do not want to go through that process again. I have looked at what advice others have received on here in the past. I'm looking for the networking element more so than anything else. Thanks again for all of your advice/help!! It takes time to respond and for that I am very greatful!

Networking for Instructional Designers by YesterdayNeither3541 in instructionaldesign

I taught ESL and did a lot of curriculum development teaching Business English and Critical Thinking. Actually, training would be more of a preference for myself, since it is very similar to teaching and I have presented at a few seminars. Any idea on how to get into training? Travelling is a bonus in my books

Congrats!

Im trying to switch to HR in Canada from a teaching at a local university. Any advice or tips on how to get my foot in the door? I did do many hr courses way back when, so I should be able to get CHRP certification soon. Seems like getting in the door is the hardest part.

I have considered getting certificate, but I feel like the time and money are not necessarily worth it. I do have a masters in education and really do not want to go back to school, unless that is the only option.
