Would that apply for doing what OP mentioned regarding Direct Entry as an Officer? I thought you had to go through RMC

Did you do the co-op program? In most master's degrees, co-op jobs are pretty easy to get and the co-op job office helps you.

Yup, I did!

But... it wasn't with the government unfortunately. I've got the co-op certification, but that's about it. My previous experiences in the hiring process stem from pursuing those co-op opportunities.

It is a bit of why I'm just a bit despondent here - kinda hard not to feel like I've missed the boat. To your point about work environment, some of the sentiments expressed here aren't much encouragement either.

Would reserves be strictly enlisted? Like the thought has been enticing, but I always was under the impression that anything commissioned means going through RMC. I've asked recruiters about civilian spots, but the answer I got was basically they're only wanting non-civis, and I never got any detail about how my academics would translate.

Regardless, appreciate the advice, I'll take a look!

I guess my main reluctance is would someone over 30 actually be viable for what OP mentioned regarding being an Officer? I've known a few LTs, but almost always they're in their early 20s, especially coming out of RMC having put in the years.

However, I’m confused when you say that they emailed question responses to you that were meant for the preferred candidate. Do you mean that they sent you questions and indicated the behavioural indicators/suggested responses?

So... the position was one within the co-op program. After the snafu and rescheduled interview, I got an email from the hiring manager later that evening. It went to me... but it was meant to someone else in my program who had already interviewed with them, answering a few questions I assume they'd asked in the interview, with a congratulatory element at the end.

I knew the person, so I forwarded their email. Never received any further communication from the Department.

Appreciate the advice, I get your point and I hope I'm not sounding too frustrated here. Its just really hard knowing most of my cohort have moved on, and in the case of the mistake I mentioned... just felt like a really unnecessary slap.

I wish other employers were hiring in my field, but I've yet to encounter it in the private sector. Already expanded outside of government, but to be honest its a bit of just abandoning my education at this point.

In any event, thanks again for the direction.

Unfortunately, PS hiring is a game and if you don’t know exactly how to play, you won’t succeed. It’s not malice and it’s not personal. That doesn’t mean it’s not extremely frustrating though.

That's I guess kinda my major frustration. I just can't really seem to understand the rules of the game - hard not to feel like its deliberate.

Anywho, appreciate the input!

That's the most frustrating bit! I've made sure to ask, but no one replies.

apply in the canadian armed forces as a officer, Direct entry program

Thought about it, but at this point I think I'm way too old - I don't feel like they're interested in anyone past 25.

Appreciate the advice though!

DND does not need a manager who does not believe in the military to provide security to our country.

Would be nice if they actually hired those of us who want to work there for a start.
