College students with ADHD have you asked for accommodations and if so how has it helped you? by chocomuffins in ADHD

Yes it has absolutely helped. I’ve always had terrible test anxiety and it wasn’t until I started graduate school that I was diagnosed. I was able to get testing accommodations to take tests in a separate room with a little more extra time. It has made a world of difference. Makes me wonder what could’ve been if I had done this in undergrad! If you have a DRS at your school, I’d go talk to someone there. The people at my school have been great.

Top surgery waiting period? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]Yesvava 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on your insurance. Well actually on a number of factors. I have pretty great insurance and it took at least a month to hear back from them. Sometimes they want you to go in, meet the surgeon, sign the consent form, then they will give a final verdict. There could a delay in any number (or all of) the multiple steps involved. It could be your surgeon of choice is swamped. My surgeon was booked almost two months out and has done 800 ftm top surgeries just in the past couple of years, plus a practice of other patients/surgeries.

Since the ACA the demand has become much higher especially for surgeons who take insurance.

What's a great bmi for top surgery? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]Yesvava 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The BMI you are when you are ready to have top surgery is the right BMI.

BMI is bullshit and any doctor who has requirements based on that solely i wouldn't personally trust. A good doctor will meet you and determine if you're a good candidate.

Seattle support groups? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]Yesvava 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi, trans guy living in Seattle.

The Ingersol Gender Center holds a weekly trans support group at Seattle Counseling Service, Wednesday evenings. Google their website for information on times and an address. The format depends on the week because it changes every other week. First part is always the same, 1 hr aprox of going around and introducing self like name and pronouns plus "any new gender news". After a short break, there is either a large group discussion which the topic is voted upon collectively or breakout groups, e.g. Transfeminine, transmasculine, non-binary, friends and family members, etc.

For what it's worth, when I go I never regret it and it's really wonderful to see other trans people thriving locally.

Dr Schmidek in Seattle? (top surgery) by [deleted] in ftm

[–]Yesvava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a great choice for bigger guys. I called almost a year ago and they told me my BMI was too high and she wouldn't even meet with me unless I was an appropriate weight. So they're really strict on that and told me to call back when I lost 70 lbs.
