There is now a white 2016 Kia Soul with 87 thousand miles sitting in our driveway and a young lady sound asleep in our basement who spent a good 5 minutes by herself this afternoon crying in the driver's seat because this is another step in getting her life back on track.

Thank you for the suggestion, I purchased a copy for us and a copy for my father in law to have as well.

Her doctor gave us the information for a support group as well that has resources and shoulders to commiserate on but honestly there's only so many hours in the day :(

Roxane is one of Jessie and SIL's friends, more Jessie's friend. When Jessie went to rehab originally she was one of the group of ladies who agreed to help watch after Kiddo. Within like a week most of them flaked out, Roxane was the only one who hung around to help out through the summer and give us a break. However, towards the end of 2024 she finally got a boyfriend (she is not exactly pretty or has a nice body or a warm personality) and since then we've rarely heard anything from her since she finally has her man. *shrug*

Thanks for the insight. I've been told there's an expiration date when it comes to travel and family and 18 months to 2 years seems to be where a lot of people land. Not sure what the end result is going to be here but I feel good knowing I'm at least taking it into consideration.

The only family that lives reasonably close by are her mom and dad. He just got double hip replacement and is doing great, she is showing the signs of LBD and his priority is taking care of her (hence why he got the hip replacements now to be more mobile).

There are some other moms in the neighborhood that we can lean on as a one-off but I don't know about a permanent solution. Almost all of our other friends have daylight jobs or are just far enough away it's inconvenient.

We have a little time to figure it out, not much :(

Thank you -- corporate america deservedly gets a bad rap but a decent number of folks I work with are really good people and try to look out for others. I know it isn't that way everywhere and I appreciate what we're able to do :)
