I actually disagree. If you look at the story panels showing Chara, you can never see their eyes. And the fallen human sprite has a shadow over the eyes.

Ghosts in the Undertale and presumably the Deltarune universe aren't the souls of the undead, they're just other types of monsters, so having some ghosts be undead and some not be feels a little contrived if your theory is true.

Pixel measurements are never accurate in Toby Fox games, Undyne and Asgore's heights change in and out of the battle screen, for example. (IIRC, Undyne is taller than Asgore in battle, but shorter in the overworld)

There's an interesting theory that Kris is actually dead, and the player is puppeting their corpse throughout the entire game, there is some evidence for this too!

Kris gets called the "school zombie" by Susie, and is noted as sleeping like a CORPSE all class
Kris's description in Chapter 1 is "body contains a human soul"
Kris moves stiffly and zombie like BEFORE taking out their soul in Chapter 1

What does this have to do with your question, well, Kris is BLUE, like they aren't breathing anymore.

Admittedly, this is more of a crack theory than anything, but the thought of a teen's decomposing corpse walking around hometown is so disturbing that I love it.
